Hey guys. I bought an old trailer some time ago,it came with Ford Wheels and rocky mountain brakes on a 5.5 pattern. I remember taking the old crusty tires off ,and making a mental note that they were 15". I installed some old willys wheels with 16" 6.00 NTD tires and experienced rubbing on the fenders. Now im not so sure the ford wheels are 15. I took some measurements so hopefully someone can help me figure out what kind of tires i need to buy. Overall diameter from outer rim is 17 3/8" From "seating" bead is 15 3/8 real close to 15 1/2.. I know i need a 4" wide tire. Also can i use tubeless tires with this type of wheel? Thanks in advance..
The tires will be plain ol 16'' ... the wheels are good for tubeless use. Wheels are quite a bit newer, probably '70s with safety rim on both sides & welded construction. Can't remember seeing these before. (Edited to read 16'' after actually reading the tape). They don't seem to have a safety rim, either, except in one pic.
I'm not seeing 15's. The tape is held on the inside of the wheel's tire mounting surface and measuring across it looks like you are over 15.5" already. Take into account the thickness of the steel and the ID of those tires will be 16". It's hard to measure for tires if you aren't sure what you're doing. The OD of the bead surface on the wheel is where you measure, and nobody can stretch a tape across that. We just need to guess from the outside where that is. Meaning, hold your tape a bit more to the outside on the "0" end.
After i posted this thread,i went and measured the wheel against an early ford 16x4.5 wheel 5x5.5 and the measurements are a match so now i know i have a 16"wheel.thanks guys.
Hey Scott! How u been? You have one like one pictured? Im gonna clean them up and see if they're usable im gathering and cleaning my odd wheels my self
