My all time favorites the first Sullivan altered (with blue panels) and the Clayton Harris New Dimension T/F. I'm looking for any pics of of their cars.
G/B/P Speed Sport Art Chrisman's 25 car Jack Chrisman's '29 sedan Glass Slipper Jocko's streamliner Jazzy Nelson's Fiat, 1st version
the little billy car belonged to angelo gia-something ...(wheres pro enfo..he knows )....think he's a big shot a ford now....that thing a bitchin ride..... the scotty's t .....big and small halibrands....and a bunch of tailpipes.....got a hot rod around here from the 50 with it in it....another neat ride....brandon
It would be hard to pic a favorite but that Giampetronis 27 "T" that Ryan posted is just pure eye candy. Here's a few more that I like.
With this being a Traditional Board I am surprised no one has mentioned the Glass Slipper ... built in 1955 ... go here ... http://www.1320tv.com/featured.asp?...ns to Bakersfield&des=Interview by Diana-Mite
Jocko Johnson's streamliner did it for me. Couldn't find a picture in its original red and white paint job.
Do you know what year the picture of the rear engined dragster shown in 50mercfan's photos was taken? That is an E ticket ride.
Although it's earlier('53),the So-Cal "Double Threat" coup is my favorite. Inovative for its day and stylish. Form follows function, pure hot rod.
You guys are all right. All of those were cool. But if you were from Texas "back in the day", and was a loner, you loved Ernies Camera Shop blown pony on nitro, and Bobby Langleys Scorpions.
ANEWBEAT, just a little side note to that austin. i race in the anra series and so does herrera. he has a aa/gs camaro that goes 7.50's now. who were sitting around talking after the races at famosa in august and i said his austin was cool and his wife said she wanted him to build one again. i don't think he will cause the camaro is more stable to drive. ANIMALAIN, i have to agree with you on the hugh tucker roadster. it was and is the best street roadster i have ever seen. i met the man after he restored it at the nhra muesum awhile back. he let me measure it so i can build a street version someday. he is a genuinely nice guy. just in case you have an interest, there is a company that is making it in 1/25th scale model form. here is the link: http://www.dragcitycasting.com/
This thread reminded me of Gotgas' "Pretty" Top Fuel cars thread: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=147534
flatheadgary, I met Hugh at the SEMA show a few years ago. Introduced myself, and related that I had seen him race SWC at Lions. He remembered the race; turns out it was the only time he raced against those guys. Told me it was so close that neither he nor Doug Cook knew who won. He is a genuinely nice guy; I bet we talked for at least a half hour. Keep in mind I had never met him before.... Neat model by the way, although probably beyond my current modeling skill level.
Back when race cars weren't covered with sponsor logos there were many "show quality" cars around. For me, Big John Mazmanian's cars were tops. His early Corvettes were black and then his signature candy red. The Willys shown here was super clean and deadly fast (note the red plex windows - it's all been done before, man). The weird thing is Mazmanian was in the garbage business! Recycling before its time!
I remember a coupe with an exhaust system like that called the "Pipe Organ." Anybody remember the front engine dragster "Sparkling Burgundy" of Mike Lewis now with Don Schumaker racing.
The Scotty's Muffler Ardun is about 10 minutes from here. Russco's dad bought the whole car back in the day. It's in an old FED right now. Here's some pics we took last spring. He's got the supercharger setup as pictured and everything. Maybe he'll jump in on this. This motor made the first 200mph pass at Bonneville (in the bellytank). -
I was just thinking, "How to pick a favorite?!", then you posted this. This car became my favorite when it appeared in Hot Rod (still have it) and it's still my favorite today. Lots of great stuff here though. Thanks for posting these picks!
