I'm not sure on these 8x10's. They take forever to scan.

I'm going to try some slides. I never did them on the new scanner.

I Guess the concept of the sidewinder car was to use the engines torque to help plant the rear tires. The amount of parasitic draw/power loss from the drive setup overcame any benefit the torque may have given.

He had a lot of breakage with the drive on the sidewinder. I never saw the turbine run. JC

I think it was in the late 80's early 90's I was at the Winternational. While sitting in the stands I was talking to the guy next to me about the old days at Irwindale and San Gabriel. The conversation got around to oddball cars. Of course the Terrible Toronado came up and I said something like " Some idiot drove that thing over the gaured rail at Irwindale" Well the guy I was talking to said " That idiot was me". It took me a couple of minutes to continue the conversation after that come back:D

I recall going to Irwindale to see that car. The races were being promoted (as they always were) in the Friday edition of the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. You dad's Camaro, the Super Chief, Steve Bovan, Ray Alley and a host of others were depicted in the sports section. It was one of the first to have cracked 200 MPH. I think Isky ran the car in an ad or two as well
