I want to install door solenoids in my 1940 merc but the spring resistance is to strong. My 75 lb. pull solenoids cant overcome it. What can i do to soften the spring resistance? Thanks

  3. Could try some stovebolt starter solenoids like they used in the old days to pull stock latches.

  4. Rich B has the right suggestion, early GM 6 Volt starter solinoids will really pull on 12 Volts.

A possibility, measure the length of the solenoid's pull. Then measure the length of the lever that pops the latch. If it is less than the solenoid's pull, you can weld on an extension to the lever on the latch, to give the solenoid more pulling leverage. I've done this to a few 50's cars, but not any 40's, so I don't know if it will work in your case.

Or make a bellcrank to improve the solenoids leverage.
