A lot of people were following Danny Tompson up to SpeedWeek but I have not seen anything here about World of Speed. Same salt. Same rules. Same records. In this case the record is 392 mph. This is from the down run. He will make the return in the morning, weather permitting. First mile: 296 four mile 396 five mile 419.70 exit 424.857 back door
Outstanding, and well deserved. Quite an accomplishment and a testement to perserverance. Lets hope for a strong safe run tomorrow and an new record!
Danny can be proud his 400 MPH plus run puts him in a very elite group less than 20 people have ever gone that fast. The car has the potential to be the fastest of them all. Setting records just like his dad a chip of the old block for sure.
Story is that he lost a clutch. Will be back next week for the High Speed Shoot Out. Another mile or two should really let it stretch it's legs.
Agreed. It so cool that he is taking what his dad built to compete in 1968 and is able to compete with it in this day and age. It really says a lot about what Mickey did back then and what Danny has done to bring the car to where it is today. What a great team and family! I can't wait for next week!
Looks like the High Speed Shoot Out has been postponed for a few weeks. They will have a 5 mile course to run on next week. But I don't know if the Challenger crew will want to spend the money for that. So now it's World Finials on the 26th as the next meet.
Wish them all well, with prelimininary speeds over 400, this car might really get close to 500 under the right conditions....I saw Mickey run Bonneville in '59 with the unblown Pontiacs, great that Danny continues the high speed legacy!
