Here's some pics of some 40's 'Bombs' and a few from the 50's. These were taken back in April of '05 at the Sultans of Long Beach show.

Anyone got more pics of this '47 two door sedan? This is what I want my '46 to be, I even love the colors. I love fastbacks as much as the next guy but I have a 2 door sedan and pics of them done properly as bombs are hard to come by.

Not to sound like a goob but what is the reason that most if not all the cars shown in this thread are GM products. I don't want to start a flame war here but I just need some education.
    Thanks
And everyone of these cars are absolutely beautiful.

Pure speculation on my part, but I would guess it was because of Harley Earl. Between the late twenties and the late fifties GM products were pretty much considered the style leaders in the country. Bomb builders were/are more concerned with looks than power (Ford) or great engineering (Chrysler Corp.).

But, as I said, just speculation.

the styling was definetly a part of it...

but it's a Mexican-American thing...i would hardley say anyone back then were "bomb builders"...(ed. the cars were the acessory to the man)
back in the 30's through the 50's chevys were always known as the working class persons
car...they were slow compared to the hopped up flatheads of the time..the chevys were not desired by the hotrodders(the majority white guys)so most of these old chevys where just prime for the picking,,,what to do?????

do you guys remeber the ZOOT SUITERS???...zoot suit riots?? (yes media has been twisting reality forever)

for these PACHUCOS it was all about styling and profiling,,looking FIRME on the BLVD with your RUCCA,,,they didnt care nothing about racing up and down the streets,.....

I've always heard that as these cars became cheap used cars, the Ford V8's got bought by the hot rodders/high school kids and that's why there were few Ford bombs.

They're not nearly as common as the Chevy's but there are some Mopar and Packard bombs out there too, it wasn't all Chevy's.

I agree, pics of the 2 door sedan body style are hard to come by. This body style is just less popular I guess. I have a 48 2 door sedan that I'd like to do right and this thread has been very helpful. Thanks for all the awesome pics people!

I'm digging this thead back up because I just saw a lowrider show on Speed this AM. It showed lots of cars from this thread and was well done, in my opinion. I know I'm on the wrong coast, but I think I'm falling in love with bombs.
