My Dad worked for Ford as a mechanic, part of his job was to prep and attend the new model showing on the Ed Sullivan show in New York city. When the Cobra came out he stopped at our house with a 260 early model one. As he was only out for a "road test" he could not give us rides. Always wished I could of has a ride. My Dad was 6'2" and 220 he was not impressed with the interier room and petal position.

In 1969, my father (& I) went to look at a real nice 427ci Cobra ... the guy wanted $3000 for it ... Dad did the "responsible thing" ... and passed on it.

He later spent $3K on a new (to us) "family car":

I often wonder "What If?" ...

When I bought my 260 Cobra motor from Shelby in 1964, they gave me this catalog, don't you wish you could get these parts for that price TODAY?

I had an original AC Cobra 260 Brochure that stated $4500.00 NEW!!!! (1964).:D:D

When Shelby was done with the Daytona coupes and moved on to the GT 40s (about 1966), any of the Daytona coupes could have been had for about $800.

Nowadays the price for one is in the millions.

A friend bought one in the 70s for like $1500, it had a Chevy engine in it mind you.

In '68, my uncle had a friend who had a 427. It kept busting the LF balljoint when it'd come back down on it after acceleration. After replacing the LF three times, he traded it in on a 69 SS Chevelle. It sat on the dealer's lot for over a year afterward. I'm thinking he said it finally sold for $3500 in late 70.

There was a 427 Cobra for sale for $6000 that I looked at. I had just bought a brand new 1970 Z/28 for $3376 and a six month old 1969 Z/28 for $2000 so I had two Z/28s....both financed. The payment on the 70 was $97.08 a month. The credit union said no to the Cobra loan. Rats.
