thats cool, you would think there would be some effect on the fuel mixture, like running lean, too lean to run, i guess the intake is split inside?

Pretty interesting actually to see it running that way.

Cool to see that, but heres one better with that. I was told that guys would make there own air compressors with flatheads because engine would run on one bank. Now I beleive it was done.

  12. V -8's have been used in air compressors for ever, almost I worked on a older Smith air compressor it had a ford 302' in it

^^^^^ Yes but what im talking about is the one engine is both the engine and the compressor. Or maybe im not reading your reply correctly.

thats cool if ya wanted to save some gas could it run on the one bank would it produce power that could roll the car like a new hybrid down hill and coasting run on 4 up hill and for speed run on 8 ?

  15. Routinely done by the old timers with 4 bangers....two cylinders fire...two pump air.

  16. I can see an increased value of that "lone" cylinder head at the swap meet.

That is surprisingly smooth running for only one bank getting mixture and spark. I really goggled when the camera spun round to the other side.

Whoa! Shouldn't you say, don't try this at home?

  20. Why isn't water gushing out of the block on the headless side?

Because there isn't any water on the other side?

  22. Well, I didn't really want to have to think. However there is a hose from rad to pump on that bank. No water at all in system...short engine run.

Most of us don't want to... :)

  24. It's a split system isn't it?

I think I discovered it by accident on my 34 coupe with a 21stud. I had one head off, and tried to jab it over on the starter and it fired. I had to open up the idle screw to keep it going but I thought it was neat. That was in then days before cheap video cameras and the internet.
So when I had the engine torn down for another job today I thought I'd try it again and video it for a laugh.
No special prep. Water is drained, short run only. No special manifolds or anything.

Glad most of you got a chuckle out of it.
    Mart.

  29. Saw a mate do this a couple of years ago when he took a head off to change a head gasket.
He actually started the car up and drove it into the shed, pretty cool to see everything moving like that.
