Man! What a cool thread! This may be off topic just a tad, but I remember a really over-the-top fad T that used to run the show circuit in the mid to late 70s called the "Kandy Man". It had insane kandy and pearl ribbon/scallop/lace paint and the guy used to play a loop of Sammy Davis Jr's song 'The Candy Man' at his display. Anyone have info on that car?

Have a few Hot Rod zines with pics of that car, but no means to scan them. Sorry. :(

Those 70's Himsl paint jobs were just a little over the top.

I think Himsl sniffed a lot of fumes over the years. Gotta give him credit for being damned good at what he did, like it or not.

Man, yeah. I'm actually pretty familiar with Himsl's work. The Andy's cars he did, all the vans (Iron Butterfly) and IIRC he did some of Tansy's show rigs too. The execution was always pretty incredible, and the style was in at the time.

Not trying to say his craft was crappy at all. Let's just say the style hasn't aged as gracefully as some other 60's / 70's trends. And with Flake and Kandies and lace panels and custom vans being back in style these days, psychedelic freak drops prolly ain't far behind. Lol.

  16. Thanks Stu. Appreciate the scan -- hadn't seen that version before.
Cool that you owned it -- was quite a car.

My MOPAR reference was actually to Don's T he built before the Corvair-powered one you acquired. It was a 426 pushbutton Torqueflite powered, also rather low-slung T-bucket. I'm trying to gather more pics and info on that one.

I am pretty sure I remember that same car around Muncie mid to late 70's dark red or maroon same injection and air cleaner.

  25. I'm also a big fan of Ted McMullen's U.S. Speed Sport "Instant T" T-bucket body/frame combos

Not from the 60's, but the styling is a reflection of the 60's. This is my favorite bucket fo all time.
