So I've had this old 39 merc custom for a few years and finally decided to take the top off and see how she looks as a convertible. Plus the old Carson top was just getting beat up being out in the weather so I figured it was time to hang it up in the garage. Judging by the amount of rust on the bolts I would say this top has not been off for at least 50 years or more!

I was thinking the same thing when I first opened this. Killer car, an absolute dream of mine to own one someday, but is it really being kept outside??

It's only been outside for a few months but it will be getting a nice warm spot in the garage for the winter! Most of the wear on the car happened before I owned it. The top got a little more shredded from the wind when I moved but the upholstery was already wasted when I got it. I've gotta do a little welding on the top then eventually it will be going to Dave Martinez for a full re-do!

I removed the 4X4 radials and install some 600 16" and skirts. Still needs to be a just little lower for my liking but much better!!!

Wow! Are those the flippers you told me about, the Deco looking type? I wanna make mine a convertible so bad, but it wouldn't be right. That 'ol Custom cleaned up nicely too!

Note: I think I saw Bigfoot in the background....

Im still trying to find the history on the car. Was told it was the very first merc every chopped but who knows for sure. I guess the old man who knew all the history on it passed a away a few years ago. He told a few people the story on the car but as of yet I cant find anyone to tell me shit! If anyone on here knows anything about it I would appreciate the info!

This is about how it will sit after a little spring reworking. Actually maybe a little higher in the front with a taller white wall.
