The gassers are cool, but I want to do a Model 77 on ‘35 Ford wire wheels (ala the Aussie roadsters earlier in this thread), ‘40s street-style with a 21-stud flathead, just to be different.

Wire wheels were standard on all US built 1934 and 1935 Willys. The Aussies started using them in 1933.

There's a sedan converted to pickup truck painted in VW Beetle metallic green that runs orange wires, a V8-60 and bed mounted radiator - from Oregon. I cannot find my photos - anyone???

I also noticed the hood doesn't cover the edge of the grille. Never seen that before.

I didn't know that. All I ever see are the scalloped steelies.

Ironically posted right below your post, although I'm not sure if it was in response. Cool truck, but maybe a bit more refined than what I had in mind.

I wonder how a highboy would look?

The 33 Willys is my first love! A chopped top 33 is just a BAD ASS HOT ROD...!
and here is one of the baddest!

K.S. was a good friend of my Dad's and myself. He was a TRUE legend of the sport, and without a doubt one of, if not THE greatest gasser pilot of all time..!

Here he is racing Ohio George at the Winternationals in Pomona Ca.... K.S. was the first AA/GS car in the 8's, way back in 1967!

Here he is putting it to Pete Hill and The Hill Bros. 33!

I have to agree on that. K.S.'s '33 was a bad actor. I also really liked the Brasher, Cummings, and Rose Willys and the Hill Brothers. Just something about '33's...

I grew up in the late 60's and even though I didn't get a chance to race then, I was fortunate enough to have seen many of the gasser greats.... My Dad, Joe raced a number of blown gassers back then. His Boss Hydro was my favorite!

Here it is when it was first raced in late 1967. This photo was taken at the U.S. Nationals in Indy. At first it was powered by a 392 hemi....

During the winter of 1967 he replaced the 392 with a 426 and chopped the top. He picked up two tenths and 5 mph, running a best of 9.05 in early 68.

Here's a shot of my Dad racing Harry Hall (driving the K.S. 33, while K.S. drove the Maz Austin)

In 1968 my Dad sold the Boss Hydro to the Boyd Bros. who raced the 33 under the name "Pure Acid", my Dad and I bought the car back in 1981. Here we are racing it at one of the very first Old Time Drags at Englishtown NJ.

I got my NHRA drivers license in 1981 driving the original Boss Hydro, (re-lettered Action Transmission, after my trans shop at the time) This car was exactly as it was raced in 1968. Iron 426 hemi, 6-71 blower, torqueflite trans, boxed 33 frame and 57 olds rear AND GASOLINE in the tank... I ran a 8.55 on my last lic. pass!

The need to go fast had gotten into my blood, and in 1982, I turned the original Boss Hydro into a modern gasser...a mistake! I don't think my Dad was happy! This version ran low eights... and was a member of the "Wild Bunch"

A couple of years later, I built this car, complete with a Keith Black hemi...went 7.95, unfortunately the car was totaled shortly after...

I sold the Flashback in the early 90's, since that time, the car has gone on to MANY victories.... Jim Godec won the Goodguys BB/GS championship one year...

Dave Cobb of Ohio owns her now... Dave has done a GREAT job running her to a best of 8.30 at close to 170 mph..not bad for a car 25 years old sporting the ORIGINAL iron 426 hemi and a 6-71 blower...

In 1998, my Dad passed away....in 2001 we did a tribute car in my Dad's memory..... The recreated Boss Hydro has run mid 8's and has made over a hundred runs down the quarter mile...

This is the tribute car we did in honor of the late K.S. Pittman... This car was built exactly as the original thanks to the help of the original builder Chuck Finders. The car features a iron 392 hemi and torqueflite trans and is set up run gasoline...

As you can tell, I LOVE 33 Willys! I've also been lucky to have the chance to be around them all most my entire life... Here's a couple of shots of my garage a few years back.....
