why wouldn't just buy a year old used? once the car drives off the lot it worth about 100 less. just find the high end 1935. The bodies are still very similar.
Phaeton, hands down...unless the missus didn't approve of an open car then the Tudor. Can't go wrong either way as IMHO 36 Fords are one of the best looking products to ever roll out of Detroit.
Hello, Being 2 door fanatics, the choice is simple. For a family, we have to be practical in all parts of the country. here in So Cal, the weather is always great for the phaeton and that is what I would want. But, the other half and the rest of the family would like some better protection and warmth during those "cold-rainy" months that do show up yearly. The 2 door sedan would definitely do it for them. If you have ever driven in a top up convertible or phaeton, you would also think twice about the quality of the drive with all of the wind noise and flapping going on during the daily cruise. What is popular these days are the Jeep soft top enclosed vehicles. Those are definitely noise makers. The 2 door sedan is always the more practical family vehicle. YRMV Jnaki
Are we stuck with those 2 and the year? Otherwise I'm going back to 47, stash a 1/2 dozen or more Duesenbergs and custom Dietrich/Lebaron Packards, stop off at 72 and buy a 1/2 dozen select Ferarris, come back, be obscenely wealthy and buy/build all of my dreams. I suppose I'd have to keep a couple of the flips too. Hey, you said if I had a time machine so...
1936 lovin folks stay tuned, a major 1936 Ford collection of coupes, sedans, woodies, sedan deliveries, and parts galore will soon be opening up for sale here in Nebraska. A spring time happening will be most likely. I have eyeballed this amazing assemblage and it is just beyond imagination. Stay tuned!!!
When I saw the thread title, I figured I'd be picking the phaeton. But looking at the two you pictured, I'd be sure tempted by the tudor!
A convertible sedan would be the optimum solution... roll up windows and much less wind noise. Not as tight as a 2 door sedan but not bad... been driving one for over fifteen years. Only snag is it takes a while to put the top up or down. Easy access, too. Just sayin' Al
Owning both body styles, albeit different years, the Tudor certainly is the better more practical choice. This is especially true in the corner of the States that I call home. Top down in the rain is fun, but would get old real quick. Oddly enough, the sales literature for my '39 Tudor stated that it was the ideal family car, even over the Fordor, as small children in the back seat have no chance of opening a door.
convertible sedan -> phaeton -> 2 door humpback. yes I prefer the humpback. I'm one of the few Sent from my SM-G920R4 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Phaeton if I still lived in the Bay Area. Now that I'm in Montana, and it was -13 yesterday, Tudor hands down.
