So you like the look of split rear bones but you are running a later gm rear , bags or what ever else (such is my case Jaguar rear) we all know how to do the pointy end but what to do about the back????? start by cutting the old end off i used my band saw and just cut deep enough to go threw the wish bone. next i mark the center hole where the bushing will go, center punch it and head to the drill press.
the bones where too large at the end and i wanted them to wrap around the bushing sleave. i laid out the od of the sleave and marked out where i wanted the taper to begin. i used a thin cut off wheel to make the cuts . clamped it together also squeazing them together so the radius line up nice. bevel for welds and weld together only up to the part where the sleave will go. welds are a little tuff on the whole saw.
take over to drill press and using a hole saw cut the holes for the sleave grind the tips down to a nice taper. I had to end mine short or they would hit the control arm. i found a nice solid rod to beat the crap out of the ends to get the shape i wanted. fit the sleave and center it.
the bushings came out of a jaguar rear control arm. They are kind of soft for a regular rear set up. new they are under $30 new from the dealer.
you could do the same thing with a rubber bushing from an '79-'82-4? gm front end bushing.....although at the rear you may want a bigger diameter bushing....how about 90's Mustang....probably metric bolt, but it would work... go to your LOCAL parts house and look through their books.....that's what I do
I have found it best to use what ever bushing came with the rear control arms of the rear you are using. factory guys spent lots of time figuring it out for you how much flex they should have to ride good.
I used Pete and jake bushings and sleeves. Lots of alternatives though. You can kinda see the passenger bone here.
Its all about the look and function. this can be used in any car as the lower arms of a 4 link or or as a 3 link
