I want to make a restoration thread, but also I want to kustomize it a little bit. It´s a 1951 Buick Super Riviera Sedan. Following is on my to-do list: - repair the rocker panel on the passenger side - repair trunk floor - rust repair of the passenger front door - shave the emblems - shave the trunk handle - shave the door handles - convert to 12V - tailpipes / sidepipes - metalfake the roof in dark blue - paint the rest of the car in flat darkblue - Airride - modifie the bumpers and rechrome - modifie the taillight to 54 Mercury - shave the gas door And now the pics:
Nice car and greetings from your western neighbours, The Netherlands Before you order parts remember your Buick is a SUPER and not a SPECIAL Hennie
O.K., The data plate on the cowl has the model number ! The Super is something like a 5619 and is something like 4619 ! Good Luck, Sonny
excellent project.. imo shave everything but the porthole emblems, just have them rechromed or use NOS.. that way the Buick identity lives !!! (as if the grill wouldnt give it away)
Good luck and have fun. A good start to your project, there is a lot of great info on the HAMB. For reference on the body type check out Team Buicks site. Check out (aw1950) 1951 Buick project, great work and reference also.http://www.teambuick.com/reference/years/51/51_body.html
O.K., Special Model number are 51-4369 and 51-4369D fastbacks ! Super model number is 51-4519 , and 51-4519X with hydraulic windows , notchbacks ! Good Luck, Sonny
unless you are gonna fab up your own pieces for all the rusted out metal, this is a good place for them. http://c2cfabrication.com/ Bought some stuff for my 53 special there, real good stuff
You were right. It´s indeed a SUPER and not a Special. I´ve got the style no. 51-4519 Thanks for your help.
You already found out it's a Super. The easiest thing to see the difference is in the rear fenders. Supers are bolted to the body and Specials are welded as one piece and not removable. Hennie
I love those great Buicks, you will have a super cool cruzer with the plan you have. Best of luck, you can do it. ~sololobo~
Yeah Buddy, These cars are so nice to cruise, I have a 50 Super and love it. I drove it last weekend to the garage for her winter hibernation. Good Luck looking forward to the progress! Chuck
Nice find, and good luck tearing into her. Floors don't look too bad, and everything else is fixable. Enjoy!
@scotsmerc64: Not yet. First I have to finish the 1955 Buick Special and the 1950 Ford F1 I have in progress.
I want to get a stance like the Buick on the picture. So I need an airride and have to modify the floor.
