This can be risky.Sometimes people will use buffing compound, with a light touch, and hope they don't burn through the paint. Another option is oven cleaner, and hope it doesn't affect the paint below. May require more than one application. I think Safariknut did a post here on removing 1-Shot a few weeks ago. .
i have always used oven cleaner. first i will do a test and spray some onto a paper plate and use a cuetip to dab it on a hidden spot. If it has no efect on the paint i will spray the oven cleaner over the striping and let it sit. using a plastic body spreader remover the oven cleaner and striping. wash the car off once all the striping is removed. you may have to do more then one coat to get it all off. after it is all off you may have to go over the paint with 1500 grit paper to sand down any raised spots from the striping. polish out sand scratches and look to see if there are any impressions left.
ive used oven cleaner with success and you couldnt even tell even if you looked really hard. but id still do a test.
Thanks guys, i'll try the oven cleaner, will let you know how it goes. ---------------------------------------------------------------- What would Scooby Do???
Would that be any brand, such as Easy-off ? or is one better than onother? Thank's Caffiene I'm sure you've done this, Im a novice pinstriper and would like to remove some earlier work i did.
gotta watch the ez off on single stage colors.....especially anything metallic or white......if the one shot is fresh ....say about 6 months or so ....try some urethane reducer......wipe it on it a couple times and let it sit a little bit...then lightly rub on the stripes ....it will usually wipe off .....i have used this technique on stuff that was on over a year....and came off with very little haze.....light polishing afterwards finished the removal......also ....with the easy off .....wear gloves....nothing like softening up your finger nails......and burning your skin .....another trick a trucker showed me ....he used lava soap and windex.......sprayed the panel with windex and rubbed a bar of soap over the lettering ....worked really slick .... brandon
eazy off is what i have used numerous times to remove striping. this was always with basecoat/clearcoat paint though
Thanks guy's, I'll jump onto it with caution, at least it's possible, and i'll test it on a place that will be easy to fix if theres any problem. ______________________________________________ Who the hell is Cooter Brown??
there's a graffiti removal product called 'taginator' that works like nobody's business. its REALLY heavy duty stuff (like dont get it on your skin) but it gets the job done.
waterbase de-greaser works well also and doesn't stink like easy-off. don't use either on extreamly hot paint.
