History Period (pre-1928) Speedster photos

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by gwhite, Apr 11, 2011.

  1. We've got some great threads floating around on pre-WWII history, early racing, 'gow-jobs' and a few modern speedster picture threads mixed in. Let's see if we can't get a period speedster photo thread going - and let's keep this within the rules set by the Santa Clara run - no post 1927 cars, please.

  2. I'll go first;

    Here's a 1913-14 ish T speedster with the popular 'high-cowl' look; (note that the car maintains stock ride height)

  3. Here's another high-cowl "T" from Texas circa 1920. This car was evidently underslung, equipped with a starter (no hand crank out front), and uses disc wheels - most likely home-built sheet metal covers screwed to stock wood wheels beneath. Check out the bell for a radiator cap!

  4. And one more for tonight - another brass era speedster, this one sporting what appears to be a 'factory body' rather than a home-built job. Dig the multi-colored spokes!

  5. Guess I'm the only one playing...

    [FONT=Verdana,Arial,Helvetica]Caption reads;
    "It is difficult to recognize this as a Ford, but it is the regulation Ford chassis equipped with the new body, which with aluminum hood and radiator shell, disc type wheels, slanting windshield, individual aluminum steps, large baggage compartment, and Du Pont Fabrikoid finish, makes an attractive speedster. The body as shown costs $325."

  12. This "long snout" style must have been fairly popular...I dig it!

    (anyone else notice the lack of floor boards!?!)

    My grandfather Ira and his buddy Elmer, photo taken in 1924 - Backus, Mn.
    on their way from Chicago to North Dakota to work the wheat harvest.
    Hard to imagine driving that car from Chicago to North Dakota.
    Elmer told me there were no paved roads in the Dakota's then, and most of them weren't even marked.

    My grandmother Lillian in Ira's third "T" speedster. Photo taken in Wisconsin - 1927.
    Note: no windshield, and rubber raincoat on my grandmother... hardy travelers, those hot rodders that preceeded us.
