I started this post to see if anyone remembers a shop in the 50" from canada called Master Welders ltd. They built an ultra sanitary chopped 4 door merc with a cleaned up 3 bar Monarch grille. (Best 4 door I ever saw!)and a sectioned box that I wasnt that nuts about. I saw both these cars in Canadian show coverage in the old Custom Cars Magazine from the 50s .I beleive the dudes name was Blackie Green. Any pics on Old canadian Customs would also be a great addition to the thread.Hell well also take some pics from Washington or any of the Northern States. AH to hell with it,Lets see any custom pics from before 1962 from ANYWHERE!!!
That's a famous name in these parts! Blackie opened a hot rod shop here in the 50's. I had him cut a few drive shafts a long time ago, pretty neat guy. He passed away in the 80's but his son still run the business. Here's a link the the business, maybe his son could help you. http://www.greensautomotive.com/
Oh, kustoms, as in cars, eh? I thought you were talking about hockey, curling, ice fishing, ice racing and drinking beer.
Come on Canucks!!! If this shit keeps up Im calling out Northern New York. How about some ol Ron Gerstner pics?? Or perhaps some good Clarkaiser pics from Detriot.Weve seen all the A bros stuff.
As far as the A-Bros go,How about Dick Baileys chopped 50 Merc. That car had a roof that rivaled Buddy Alcorns car.
Ok, so it's not a custom, but this little '34 Chevy 3-window has a long history in the Calgary area. The b&w pic was taken in the early 60's, the colour one in 1992. The car is still owned by the guy who bought it in the early 70's, and it's still running the same Ford y-block/4-speed it was built with.
Somewhere....I have a picture of Ron Gerstner's '34 Ford coupe with the lift up body. It was candy green at the time. Gerstner painted "Punk's Pickup" a candy tangerine. It was a steel '23 T with 394 Olds. From Hamilton. Ontario. It went on to win many awards. Not a Kustom though.
And I though Canadian Kustoms was the place where you have to leave all the cool stuff you bought in the states when you come back to Canada...
Naw, that's Canada Customs, that's where the lady with the beard and the latex gloves works............ PS : and don't fergit Maple Syrup !!
I swear I was thinking about that Chevy when I started this post.I always saw it as Canadas answer to Richie Zadrogas chopped 51 Chevy from Jersey City N.J.
00 mack,,this car [chopped chevy]still makes it to some local shows now and then,,,,its a real neat ol' survivor...
This is a good friend of mines. He found it about three years ago. His brother owned it in the 50s. My friend got his liscense in it when he was 15,he just turned 60 the other day! It virtually unmolested sence it was channeled back in the day......Shiny
I know ,I shit when I saw a pic of it in Custom Rodder at the unfinished Nationals about 10 years ago!!!
The chevy belongs to Terry Kong. He has had it for years. Originally built from a rusty sedan in the 50's by Court Elliot of the Shifters Car Club. Jack Williams, a legend in the Vancouver area did the chop and the customizing, all in lead. The lead is still holding up today. Packard tailites and Lincoln quads on the front. I had the car stored in my garage for a few years in the 80's. I will dig up some of the pics I have of some Vancouver area rods and customs from the 50's and 60's. Pat.
Nope not yet... Hopefully today when I get home from work. I'll let youknow as soon as I get the envelope.
Its the car in its current state as shown at some small dhow in Bergen County New Jersey.Supposedly the owner who secretly stores the car only took it out because a relative asked him to bring it .Ya think its worth a HAMB thread???
Absolutely!!!... Now I really cant wait for the envelope to hit my mailbox. btw what did you think of the kolorized photos I send you?
Hey 00MACK, I know this is an older thread but i wanted to chime in on it. I bought the underside of a 53 built- 32 Roadster wit ha blackie Green made front axle.
