A couple of weeks ago a car pal sent me an email with a note and some pretty incrediable photos of some model cars. I thought I'd share.

    Back story....

People from Broken Hill Australia will remember from their younger days this icon of the city. He used to go to all the public functions..especially the pictures theaters and always carried a sugar bag to collect empty bottles and cans. His name was Albert (Tapper) Torney. Everyone thought he was a bit eccentric and kids would tease and hassle him. But it was discovered he was very talented and only sold the empty bottle.

After he died in 1998 at the age of 86 his large collection of model cars he made from the aluminum cans was discovered. Truely an amazing, talented and gifted man

    Good God almighty!

Would love to see one of those dissected, though that'd be a shame. Did he leave any plans behind?
Probably not, I don't know of a single modeler who uses diagrams and plans and such - renderings of the finished product maybe, but nothing else...

Search is your friend - I got blasted for posting these a while back before Christmas, as they had already been posted twice before. I guess that makes me as guilty as you of not using the search function...

    Happy New Year

I wonder if he was a dairy farmer? If he was, I'd would say his work was utterly amazing! Thanks Denise for sharing.

  23. VERY cool and thanks for posting this but whoever sent you the pics never let facts get in the way of a good story. The guy who makes them (Sandy is the name on his website) is doing great for a guy who's bean dead since 1998. He just posted on his blog page 3 days ago...:p

yep, I was going to say the same thing,, pretty kool cars, they have been posted here before,, just not with the fairytale.

the person responsible for the cars can be found here....

    http://cancars.webs.com/roadster.htm

I think the story in this post is pretty interesting, not that it is at all true.. just interesting.

I can only imagine that it was created by someone who though.. man, these are neat cars,,, made of beer and pop cans....... WOW.....

it makes it even more interesting to think that it was some lone guy that picked up cans and everyone thought he was crazy,, UNTIL he died and they found him to be a closet artist...

there are litterally THOUSANDS of these fairy tales floating around on the internet.

remember the great barn find of cars in south america,,, the doors of the barn were welded shut........ ect....

or the panhead found in the field with Elvis Presleys signiture on the bottom of the seat.....

all of the stories are great, but to me they take away from reality, not add to it.

it would be far more interesting to find teh REAL person that made the can cars....

    http://cancars.webs.com/roadster.htm

or find teh REAL owner of the cars in the barn, or the REAL owener of the old panhead, and get some REAL info........

again, very kool cars, well worth another post,

here is the old barn find story...

    http://www.hoax-slayer.com/barn-cars.shtml

I think that the authors comments could relate perfectly to the "can cars" fairy tale too...
