When I bought this the guy said it was outta a 58 or 59 ranchero, he also said it was an 8", but with all the searching I have done on the internet it seems to be a 9". There is no tag on it but cast in the front of the 3rd member is the # 8A4025 then a 4 after the bolt. on the side of the yolk is an I in a diamond with 0-59 under it. Any help would be great.
Here's a couple of housing end pics, I hope they help. www.ridgenet.net/~biesiade/Fordrears.html Try this link also.
Now that we have established what it aint. can anyone tell me what it is? It's ok that it aint a 9", I wanted an 8" to begin with. but I want to know what I got
It's been awhile since I looked at one but I didn't think the pinion on these was offset like this one is. Maybe the ones I had were oddballs.
Well, I found it in an old "Motors" manual .....Drum roll!!!...... it is a 1949 to 1951 ford rear end. It didn't give a size, so still not sure on that. so I guess the rear end I have is sore and streched out a little farther
Well I called the guy and he said bring it back. so I got my money back and he gave me an old spun aluminum tapper keg gas tank. All is well in turd land
Early rearends are early rearends. Until the 8" and 9" Ford and 10-bolt and 12-bolt GM became available they were just called rearends or differentials.
