Something I have been wondering about what ever happened to Ray Brown's rear engine '27 T lakes roadster? Did it get sold, crashed or updated into something totally different? Anyone know?
I don't think it did. To my Knowledge it only ever ran a V8-60 as Ray had moved to a bellytank when he started messing with the Hemi engine. Anyone know anything of its fate?
This unit showed up at the Gooding sale at pebble Beach this year.I don't know if it is the same one though.Looks similar.
i sure would like to know too, its one of my favorite cars. i dont think the one above is the same, the body mods done to rear engined lakes cars (especially 27's) were pretty generic, as that one is similar to the ray brown automotive car, which is similar looking to the carillo car. anyhow, good thread, hope its still around! p.s. didn't he run a full size flattie in the 27 too???
oh and also notice the above car still has the cowel vent/gas tank filler door area thing where as ray brown's car had that filled and smoothed.
Similar but not the same car It is amazing how many rear engined T roadsters there were & how they had similar styling but were so different in their construction. http://www.d1082234.domain.com/hotrodmags.html As far as I know Ray only ran the roadster in A roadster class which was 183ci limit. He may of ran in B or C class but I haven't seen any pics. As you say they are not the same car.
That roadster is really neat! I have to put it on my "to be cloned" list Jimmy, have you seen it featured anywhere after that 1950 hot rod magazine?
Yeah,he gave up on the flatty when the hemi came out.Hotrod Deluxe recently did an article on Ray.Earlier this year or late '08.
Here is a story on the roadster from Popular Science July 1950: http://books.google.com/books?id=Qi...wn"+hot+rod&lr=#v=onepage&q=ray brown&f=false
Hot Rod Handbook '51 Fawcett's book 129. Cheers for that! It shows the roadster from a few angles I hadn't seen before That was a good read, HRD rules! I found this pic it has some striking resemblance's to Ray's T it was taken around 1954
I think this car is the one that has an ARDUN, was in the Harrah Collection, last owner as in Massachusetts.
Hey, what happend to the car? Did an elephant sit on the cool nose Are that photo before or after the firs photos you added?
Problem with rear-mid engine rods on the street is transmission to rear. V-dub, Corsair, toranado(to new) solve that problem. V-drive for boats provide solution if you have the room for the pieces needed. Then need to plumb the radiator. V-drive history says goes to ‘30s & started to explode in early ‘50s. Pickups would have the room. Get building
