Referring to the Cadillac of any product has always meant the top or best of that product line. I have always had a respect for enthusiasts with the fortitude to attempt restoration of one of these cars, especially some of the more rare models. Sure, you could go the easy route and find a 1965 Mustang; suppliers for those cars are as many as there are spokes on a wire wheel. But tackling one of these behemoths is a job worthy of the best restorers the hobby has. How many Mustang limos, ambulances and funeral cars were there anyway? Here are a few of many Cadillac parts requests we have received in the last few months: "I need a headlamp switch for a 1957 Cadillac Fleetwood Series 60. I think this is the same part as the 1958 model in most Cadillac cars that year except Seville." "I'm looking for the chrome hood ridge cap for a 1965 DeVille. Also a four-core radiator and fan shroud for same." "I am looking for a service manual for my 1969 Cadillac Fleetwood. I am having the air conditioning and heating system fixed, and my mechanic needs some assistance without having to do the trial-by-error method. Can you assist him, or do you know where I might be able to locate a service manual like this?" "We have a 1941 Cadillac model 6127. We are looking for the windshield wiper motor (electric), a master cylinder and the rubber seal around the two front doors." "My 1948 Cadillac transmission has decided to do some nasty things. My mechanic advises me that we need some new parts, and obviously you people are the knowledgeable ones. Can you send me a schematic of the transmission if possible? The part number on the transmission is 1424426. Please let me know as soon as possible; my mechanic wants his bay back." "My father has a 1942 Cadillac convertible. It is one of five antique automobiles in his collection, (two-door, black with a tan top, original, and is in very good condition), and I understand that information on this year Cadillac is very scarce. I also understand this was wartime and that six were built. I was wondering if you had any information on this year Cadillac, or could give me a website, name of a book, etc., that does have information on it, such as history, rarity, Cadillac collectors, etc." Your monthly Hemmings Motor News has many parts suppliers who specialize in strictly Cadillac cars. Many of these advertisers also specialize in a component system in particular, or parts which are popular and in high demand. Still others deal in parts for specific years or eras of Cadillac. You will find from this article that Hemmings pretty much has all the bases covered when it comes to finding your necessary Cadillac parts. When searching for engine parts, there are a few suppliers who deal specifically in 1937-'48 flathead 8 engine parts. Eddie Jones and Ed Cholakian at All Cadillacs of the '40s and '50s can supply you with heads, camshafts, flywheels as well as other engine rebuilding parts. Both of these suppliers also sell the HydraMatic transmission flywheels, too. Complete rebuilt engines for Cadillacs of this era are available from Vintage Cadillac and La Salle Engines. Their specialty is rebuilt and NOS 1936-'48 Cadillac and La Salle engines. Finding other engine-related items for different eras is also not a problem. Early single-cylinder Cadillac engine parts and restoration services are available from Stoneaire Classics. Stoneaire's specialty is strictly 1903-'08 Cadillacs and other pre-1916 brass era cars. Later model Cadillac enthusiasts can contact Maximum Torque Specialties and Terrill Machine Works for engine parts for the 368, 425, 472 and 500-cu.in. engines. Remanufactured water pumps are available from Mike Gadaleto, and rebuilt heater valves for Cadillacs can be found by contacting Joe Hudacek or Jim Tucker, both monthly advertisers in Hemmings. Wiring harnesses for any Cadillac after 1928 are the specialty of AGUS Cadillac Parts, and original hardware and fasteners are the primary focus of Auto Hardware Specialties. Brake parts for all Cadillacs produced after 1937 can be found through Jim Ragsdale. Jim has master cylinders and wheel cylinders, as well as 1953-'60 power brake boosters on hand. For the enthusiasts looking to convert their 1959-'68 models to disc brakes, these types of conversion kits are available through All Cadillacs of the '40s and '50s as well. Speaking of conversion kits, RPM Engineering sells a conversion kit for 1936-'67 disc brakes as well as a power steering rack and pinion conversion. This bolt-on kit is available for 1936-'60 Cadillacs. Interior components such as seat covers, headliners, door panels and carpeting are available for 1937-'48 models from Hampton Coach Works. The same type of products for these and newer Cadillacs can be found through Jenkins Interiors. Jenkins Interiors lists a wide range of products for 1930s through 1970s Cadillacs. Vacuum and electric antenna rebuilding services for 1939-'69 Cadillacs are offered by Klaus Wojak. Klaus also has some restored original equipment antennas available for sale. John Wolf and Company can rehabilitate dash gauges for Cadillacs from 1927 and up. Wolf also offers a rebuilding service for the original fuel tank sending units. If you don't have a unit to rebuild, you can have a new one made to order through JF Sullivan. The Sullivan company can also supply hard-to-find ignition coils for the 1928-'32 Cadillac V-8 as well as the V-12 and V-16 engines. When searching for some accessory and finishing items, Hemmings advertisers offer reproduction parts to fulfill those particular needs, too. For example, Caddy Daddy offers doorsill scuff plates for Cadillacs from 1948-'70. Classic Caddies in Ontario supplies parade boots for your convertible top. Classic Caddies offers parade boots for both the 1955-'60 models as well as the 1971-'76 Eldorado. FEN Enterprises of New York offers Cadillac-logo floor mats for models built between 1950 and 1976, and they also have NOS Cadillac (and other makes) flat glass available. If you are looking for replacement lenses for your vehicle, these can be found for 1941-'64 cars at McVey's. McVey's also offers restoration decals, exterior and interior mirrors, and reproduction wheel covers. For cars a little older than that, Kenneth Johnson offers lenses for Cadillacs and La Salles produced in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Still other suppliers offer Cadillac parts in general that include coverage for cars built in the 1930s and up. Kern Motor Company offers NOS and reproduction items for Cadillacs from 1941-'92. Cooper's Vintage Auto Parts in California deals specifically in parts from 1937-'64. USA Parts Supply also sells a wide range of parts for most Cadillacs from 1949 to 1985. Honest John's Caddy Corner offers quality replacement parts for 1941-'91 Cadillac vehicles. For enthusiasts who are restoring a 1957-'60 Eldorado, Mastermind Incorporated is a good place to check with. While they do sell parts for other models, their main expertise is in parts and restoration for these four specific years of Eldorado. Sheetmetal is always a tough search for the Cadillac restorer. Not many companies in the aftermarket are tackling the massive body parts that are needed for returning a Cadillac to its original state. Hemmings does, however, have numerous used parts suppliers who deal in big Cadillac used body parts. Aabar's Salvage has 1940s through 1970s Cadillacs they are currently parting out or selling as a unit. Indy Caddy Classics in Florida specializes in 1941-'47 Cadillac used parts. Larry Lawrence has parts cars available from 1969-'76. Cadillacs Only offers used parts for 1950s-1990s cars. The Cadillac King, in addition to offering 1950 and newer Cadillac parts for all models, is an Allante parts specialist as well. Another Allante specialty supplier is Tom Rohner. Dennis Ackerman specializes in used parts for 1940s to 1960s cars. Comeskey's Vintage and Classic Cars also advertise good used parts for 1930s-1960s Cadillacs. Carolina Classics is another supplier who has used items for 1955-'85 models. A&A Auto Parts is also a used Cadillac parts specialist, as well as DBaer's Cadillac Parts. Both have used parts and parts donor cars for 1949-'85. And if you are looking to start your own used Cadillac parts business, DBaer's has recently been put up for sale, too. Cadillac International sells quality used items for cars built from 1941-'90 and are currently selling a large inventory of bumper ends for 1948-'78 models. And John Gately offers 1937-'85 Cadillac used parts as well as 1927-'40 La Salle parts. Speaking of bumpers, the Hemmings Cadillac advertiser section contains at least seven different vendors for the fiberglass replacement bumper fillers. These were mentioned in the fiberglass body parts column we offered in a previous issue. Yeah, there's a lot more folks don't know about. In this day of point, click & buy, folks often forget how to let their fingers do the walking. A lot of these are old news to a lot of us, but there's guys out there that could probably use some pointing in the right direction. Also, this was written in 2005 - like 90% or more of these guys are still in business. I think that says a lot for 'em - you don't stay in business THAT long being an asshole to people. Believe it or not, a bunch of these guys were in Hemmings ten abd even fifteen years ago. Hey, if anyone has any other sources, post 'em! Maybe someone in the future will do a search for "Cadillac parts" and this thread will come up. If it helps 'em, even a little, it'll be worth it.
