Very nice.......but transparent?

 

Its clean but im thinking the front should be a little bit lower.

Definatly didnt start out with the best doors. But when they are done you will never know.

 

Though I would chop it before I sent it to the sandblasters. Chopped 3"

 

Just thought I would mock it up with the bed. I want the cab to sit 5" off the ground and the bed 7".

Off to the sandblaster. Its too bad that I couldnt keep some of that nice patina, but it needs so much metal work that I had to get it clean to work on.

Building the section of frame from the cab back to the bed. I wanted the kickup in the be to be as hidden as possible so I curved the rails to match the bead in the bed. That way when I put the floor back in the bed it will follow the bead and look more natural.

THis is going to be one sweet truck!

 

Remember those crapy doors. Well with a little tlc and some huge patch panels there as good as new. I had to make both door skins from the beltline down, and on the driver it had to continue all the way up the top of the door skin.

This is how it sits now in the shop. The doors are choped and hung, the bed is mounted on the frame, and its all sitting at ride height. The wheels are 16" dodge artillery rims that I plan on widening 3" and running the 16 x 30 hurst pie crust slicks. The rear end is a 9" with positrack, and the front suspension will be a 4" drop axel with split model a wishbones and a spring mounted in the wishbones. I have a 425 cadillac motor that will be going in it with a 5 speed trans. Should be a fun shop truck.

Are you leaving the rear overhang, or centering the axle in the bed?

 

Leaving the bad long would RULE!

 

I plan on leaving the bed long and have the center line of the axle right in the middle of the bead in the bed. Basicly right where it is now.

 

using the vintage tin and not making an all alum. version? seems like you might be the man to do it and that would be pretty bitch'n.

I actually want to do some more work in copper, and i thought of building a 34' bobber truck out of copper. Similar style to the way steve sellers did his 34'.

I have the aluminum willys to keep me buisy with aluminum

Nice work, your a very talented young man. Like someone asked before, what do you want to be when you grow up?

 

That is a sweet looking ride, quite an idea on the rear frame with it following the curve of the bed bead, just wondering in my mind, how your going to keep the frame rigid and non-flexing under weight or load? Good job!!

 

The frame is 1/4" thick steel. maybe a little over board but with the curved rail I didnt want to take a chance. Plus the extra weight will help too

 

Over the weekend I drilled my axle and started cleaning up the casting marks.

Also I got my "bomber" gas tank. I am trying to decide if I want to run just the one, or get another and run them side by side. What you guys think? (I photoshop'ed the picture with the two)
