I was looking for a "how to" thread or ... ?

Not sure what pieces, parts I need or ..just wing it ?

  7. I know the most popular setup on mopars was the a-100 axel and parallel leafe springs, but i dont have any info on how to install it. I would not have a clue were to find the a-100 stuff today though. I think tingler used a speedway axel on his fairlane. I know its a different model but concept is the same. Maybe he could give you a little advice.

I built my "gasser" 15 years ago and by all accounts I was at least 25 years LATE of the "trend" - so at this point what's a year or two late of the "new trend"!

Serioulsy - build it!!! -They're timeless IMHO.

  9. Hmmmm... not sure it'll ever pass - anymore than flathead powered model A coupes.

As far as advice goes, I've seen pictures of your silver B-body... maybe you should be giving advice to me! That car is tits.

I'd start with moving the rear springs in... just because I want to sell you the kit. All kidding (and salesmanship) aside, that'd be a place to start. Also, if you made your cut out in the frame about an inch forward and one down... a quick/easy way to get a little 'cheater' altered wheelbase look. Kinda' like the first MW cars did before the alterations got overt.

I'd been thinking about an early Lancer with a beam axle under it about a week ago - was wondering if anybody had done one with a early Ford axle (since I have one). IIRC the old Don Gay pontiac had one punched full of holes. I think I saw a picture of it in a Hot Rod coffee table book on FC's.

Also, how's about mid 1950's and older Dodge pickups? You can still occasionally find them for cheap; you might be able to scavenge an axle there.

More ideas (you may or may not like...): zolotone trunk splatter all over the interior - maybe even the exterior, buried in clear and blocked smooth (material cost:(), colored plexi side windows, vintage style lettering, engine setback, aluminum firewall, Cessna/Ercoupe/Aeronca type bucket(s), swiss-cheese holes everywhere, DragFast/DragMaster/DragTheHarbor (name?) type collectors - the ones where the primaries all come in from a side; the dump is in the back, and there's a long skinny plate capping off the side opposite the primaries, steel rims, pie crusts, Caltrac or Traction Master devices, four bolt valve cover heads.

There, I threw it all against the wall... any of it sticking?

Thanks . Yeah, I get bored without something to build ..
since the 64 is within a week or two from being done , time to do something else

I was hoping somone took pictures of how they did it, so I can get a idea on what parts to purchase

    Looks like , I'll just figure it out as I go . . . .

Or , drink beer and stare at it some more

  11. Seeing your other stuff, I doubt it will be a "Trendy Poser" with all show, no go...How about measuring the front track and we'll figure out what donor axle would fit. Model A axles are plentiful...

Here's some scans from a mid 60s HRM. Not a Valient but a similiar Dart and more of a 1st gen. F/C than a gasser. Probably a little more radical than what your looking for but may be of some interest. FWIW

I'm working on a 65 Barracuda gasser used a Speedway axle kit with a Flaming River Mopar manual steering box. I cut holes in the bottom of the
subframe and fit the back of the spring up inside then reinforced the frame with 3/16 plate. the front of the spring I used a piece of 2x4 tubing welded it to the frame then welded shackle mount to it then reinforced with 3/16 plate.
The rear I used the mopar relocating kit moved the springs in 3" and a narrowed ford 9" [not tubbed] with homemade 48" ladder bars with floating housing mount. I have pics but trouble posting them pm me if you need more info I will do what I can to help

Gearhead, I'd love to see your pics, someone will help you post them or there is a tutorial I think.
Big Dad, I don't have it handy but check out the latest Mopar Action mag, has an article on the "factory" straight axel cars, includes pics of a Valiant IIRC.

heres ROADKILLERS falcon...50 chev truck axle..malibu discs' speedgay springs....axle is nice and narrow..but the brakes widen it 3/8"(a side)...the springs sit at an angle on the axle...worked out good for us.. your case may vary....

Put a big block in it, make it stand tall, and have fun with it.

Fender well headers and a high rise or injector stacks through the hood work too.
