Anybody seen this Merc. Was built in Wisconsin in the 80's went to Cali and got sold again. Supposedly around Sacramento. The guy that built it is a bud of mine and would like to get it back and redo it. BB
Hey Bob, Saw the Merc at a KKOA thing years ago. I did a post about it, where is the Merc today and no one bit on it. Good Luck. Happy Trails, Mick
I used to see that in oregon. never thought I would use the words over and chopped in one sentence till I saw that merc, probably been 10-15 years since I saw it last
Jeff Johnson of Green Bat built it.Ive never seen it in any Cali Coverage.I used to like when he had those giant yellow glasses on when I was a kid.
I've got pictures of it at paso and in oregon. I find it hard to believe that there are two yellow mercs tilt front and mail slots
WOW!!! i have never seen that much of a chop on a merc... at first i didn't like it but on the shot rikster posted w/o the distracting flames, i sorta dig it... why do people paint FLAMES on KUSTOMS? the two (usually) don't go together, let your kustom work speak for itself! i would love to see more on this one...
Would be pretty slick with that chop... if they had sectioned it a foot to make the proportions work. Course you'd have to lay down to drive it!
Anthony, you must know every car!!!! Hey Bob, I saw that car!!!!!!!!!!!!!! when I took that picture sorry couldn't resist. Love ya
I've never seen it here in SoCal! It's pretty ugly,if you ask me. NOT beyond repair though...It could be saved!
it needs to be redone hopefully with some class and taste behind the project, sure was an 80s custom ,thank god those days are gone.
I'm assuming by looking at the avatars, this one was built by tazhog... Pretty severe chop, but a really smooth roofline...I kinda like it...I don't care for the quad headlights, but that's just me... Wild how styles and preferences change...
I remember that car when I was a kid in WI. It was really something to see among a sea of camaros. In the early 80's, there weren't too many customs.....anywhere. Tazhog's Merc was around and there was another chopped, medium green with yellow flames 50 from Green Bay. Those were the only two customs I really remember making local shows. It'd be cool to see both again. Dad and I went to the Mid-Century Mercury Club's show in Kenosha about '82 and thought we had died and gone to heaven. Dad's first car in 58 or 59 was a 51 Merc he started customizing. We walked into that show right as someone was firing up a sweet, black, custom Merc and I thought he was going to pass out from smiling so big. It as quite a treat to see a bunch of customs all in one spot....not to mention so many Mercs. They just weren't around in any numbers at all, and to have the few that were around gathered up in one spot.....it was special.
That green Merc was owned by Ralph Hanson, he and Jeff built theirs together and were the best of bud's before Jeff moved to Cali. Ralph sold all of his stuff a few years back and is totally out of the cars now. I don't know where that car ended up. BB
What it would be like for a chopped Merc and a Checker cab to have a kid together...answered today on the HAMB...
That's pretty interesting, heard of that word for the first time today.Probably derived from the german word "furchtbar" which is the same meaning !
