Some photos of some great old Auto Transporters for your viewing pleasure. I wonder if the truck hauling the Oldsmobiles had an Olds engine, same for the one hauling the Buicks? It was possible.
at home I have a picture of a Cabover loaded with new 49 Chevys. that must have been some slow going with the old babbit motor. when I win the lottery I'm going to get a real one.
In '71/72, when I was in college in souther IL, Ford donated a full size Ford that had been backed off the top of an auto transport...with no ramps in place. The rear bumper was even with the rear window. All Ford wanted back was the radio and tires. Chevy also donated a Vega that had been sitting on a rail transport car, I think near St. Louis, when a huge nearby explosion wrinkled all the sheet metal. IIRC, they didn't want anything returned. My older brother worked at a Ford dealership in the 60's, and the truck driver drove a new car off the side of the ramps coming off the top. Did a job on the car, and the driver told him that that would be the end of his job.
Wreckers you say? A couple from the right hand side of the pond <o></o> MG Y-type <o></o> 1939 Bedford (GM) <o> </o>
Same T racer/TT truck set-up that ts3 posted but you can see that this one was shot in the mid 70s at the Long Beach T hill climb. And a load of chevy trucks.
