Oh how I so remember the Burma Shave signs along route 66. This is a great look back to that era. This is for us old farts so skip if you are under 60 or so... Oh yes, there are even a few photos of the old cars You may need to watch it twice; once to watch the Burma shave signs change and once to catch all the pictures plus listening to the music of the Statler Brothers. THIS IS REALLY GREAT. I am only sending this to my 'older friends' because most folks under 50 would have no idea what I am talking about.. 'Too bad they missed it!' http://oldfortyfives.com/DYRT.htm Ken
Despite The Post Nazi, I enjoyed it. Thanks! (And I'm just 38.) If you don't know Who's signs these are You haven't driven Very far! Spotted that one on Rt. 66 last summer, while driving an all-original '73 Duster home to Atlanta from LA. Left a message on my mom's cell phone with the first four signs. Got a message a few hours later with her laughing/yelling "Burma Shave!" and then she hung up! Made our day. -Brad
Well, im 22, and i really appreciate this post, i moved to az from ia a couple months ago and went on a 66 voyage just yesterday, flagstaff all the way to oatman...donkey town, saw all the sites, stopped everywhere...read the burmashave signs. Pretty cool stuff. thanks man!
Talking about "Pissin in the Cornflakes"... (Which is another old bandwidth burning comment!) First time I saw this... glad you didn't do a search...! Hahaha...!
In about '62 or '63 we were running through Idaho and saw: Ben met Anna Made a hit Had a fight Ben-Anna split. Burma Shave so my Mom immediately wants a bananna split; next town we stop at the malt shop and my Mom orders a bananna split. The waitress says: "Ma'am, we are all out of banannas. Everyone wants a bananna split and I don't know why!"
Seen it before but always glad to look one more time. The Post police on HAMB evidently have a lot more time to cruise these post than most readers do and need to realize that because there on here 24/7 is no sign all the readers are. Over all it's a great site for history and knowledge.
Haha...no kidding. This site is so huge, if the "search first" rule was strictly enforced, there'd be very few new threads. But maybe that's OK too, I dunno. Love the Burma Shave stuff. There are still some originals out here in Montana. You can buy repros, I want to setup some on the road to my place: Listen birds These signs cost money Roost a while But don't get funny Burma Shave The one on The Fastest Indian was pretty good to, something about a smoother rooster, can't remember exactly. Thanks for the thread.
A BIG thanks for reminding me of the good times. I,m 69 years old ,but remember how good I looked in my "51 ragtop shoebox ,and my white bucks ,.....Ernie
Cool stuff! There's a stretch of Old 66 between Seligman and Kingman, AZ that has simulated versions of them old signs...
the owner of the barbershop I work at has an old burma shave brush.... he's a collector. cool video by the way, even though I'm only 27
