Who made (or currently makes) metalflake-finished steering wheels? On the wagon, since I'm going with a lime-green flake finish on the roof and dash, I want a steering wheel in the same finish. I had seen one on a car a while back on the HAMB that is exactly what I see on my car, assuming I do not go back with the stock wheel. It was dark green flake, three chrome spokes with three holes in each spoke. Now that I've tried to find a pic, I can't find one! So, what info can the HAMB hordes provide?
Speedway has them http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Metalflake-Steering-Wheels,25561.html Moon Eyes has them i think Here is a post about them http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=438873
Cool, thanks for the info. The more I look at those, the more I want one! Since my interior is going to be black and white, that silver wheel sure looks cool as hell!
Just went down this path myself in search of a 15". Mooneyes informed me that they are out of all metal flake wheels (same with Night Prowlers, Streamline & Kool Rides) including the white vinyl. Grant makes these for Moon and last year Moon rejected a batch of white ones which upset Grant. Called Grant with pn's for 15" wheels and all they could tell me is they're currently not making them with no future production currently planned.
Actually I bought a green one at GNRS from Moon and they had about half a dozen left. Better call them quick because thats all of them. If you can't find one I've got 5 green ones now. PM me and we'll make a deal or something.....
my friend eddie the flake has some in ny...i think they are for sale - moon, 500's old cragar.....pm and i will contact him - he had - white cragar, 'flake blue small, silver 'flake 14" moon, 14" red 'flake 500, some black, 14" gold 'flake
check out mooreparts.com... they have every color in stock. Its a volkswage/dune buggy supplier. They are Grant wheels, its where I got mine.
What he said. The one in my pickup looks cool, but I'm betting that the workmanship on the vintage ones is tons better. The steel was not cleaned up after it was stamped, there are some sharp edges that they simply chromed. Also the rubber was poorly poured. There are a few on Ebay right now... but I bet you can get a nice old one on the HAMB. - Joe
I scored a nice red one this weekend at the Nashville swap meet for $50. There was also a vendor there with a bunch of Mooneye's stuff, had several new flake wheels and the only color he had was green. Here's a link to his place: http://www.hawkhardware.com/hotrod.html
http://www.reidsrodparts.com/ these guys had some hanging in the shop last week, cant remember if they were slotted or holes,,
I just called, I had him check and they are in stock. 10" with holes, red blue green silver, 11 1/2" green only, 12 1/2" slotted, red blue green silver. $65-$70, might be good deal if ya can't find vintage wheels. <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
You should snap up a Moon one as a backup. If they are drying up it would suck if you couldn't get one. - Joe
Yeah, Joe said it. Even though the newer Moon wheels aren't up to the standards of the vintage pieces, they'll be miles better than speedway's mexican produced wheels coming soon.
