Personally I think you’ll have a hard time finding anyone to pay much for a fire car with rusty quarters too.

Make a deal for both. As they say on America Pickers, BUNDLE.

  9. I know we are talking two different cars, but I bought a decent 58 Nomad a few years back in much better condition than that thinking maybe I could make a buck but struggled to sell it for very little. 58 sedan deliveries are cool though.

Hard to hold paint on it , most of the carbon gone from the heat !!!

  12. I’d drive that.
    Doesn’t even need paint
    Make it go and stop

  13. If paint doesn’t stick to a fire car how does it stick to places I heat with a torch or weld?

  14. In which case you’ll likely need a new frame, front end, rear axle ( 12 bolt posi if possible, hehe) , engine, replace/repair the sheet metal, brakes, transmission, electrical, upholstery, bellflower exhaust and a photo of the Mrs on the wall to remind you who’s boss.

I didn’t say it wouldn’t stick , but most shops will stay away from a compleat burn job because of all the extra work involved to make it stay , the way live metal does !!! Go ahead take the chance ?

If the body gets chemically stripped and then sealed, there should be no issues with paint adhering. The fire can create a very acidic coating all over the metal, but if it cleaned well enough there's no problem.

    Hello,

Ever since I had a 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery as a teenager, I could drive it all over So Cal and into Baja, Mexico. Thousands of miles and never gave it a thought about the blind spot on the passenger side rear panel. We were having so much fun on road trips and camping that it was a minimal intrusion. The small mirrors were clean and gave enough of a view for me on either side. That Flathead powered sedan delivery was not very fast, but it never faltered where ever we went on our road trips. 50 miles to hundreds of miles on one road trip or a week long vacation.

As this week is officially the end of 2024 Spring Break, we would have spent the last days in Mexico until the late Sunday afternoon for the long drive home.

What did this 1958 Impala station wagon, custom panel creation offer that the 40 Ford Sedan Delivery did not offer? Well, more space for one. More power to climb those steep coastal roads without having to downshift to 2nd or on many occasions, down to first gear to make it to the top of the hill grade.

And, if the side panels were taken out and full windows put in place, a nice 2 door station wagon. Now, the overall view blockage from the solid rear side panels are not a hinderance to clear vision driving. The two door Impala station wagon would have sold well beyond the 4 door Chevy wagon that was part of the Chevy lineup that year.

    Note:

But, as long as the surfboards were at the time, they would have to be the wind stoppers on top of the station wagon.

These days, there could be three shortboards inside and still have room for everyone and all of the road trip stuff… yikes!
