Next I painted & Fitted up the 32 drop axle I purchased from Big Al Removed some leaves from the spring pack and had the eyes reversed to the front and rear spring. Paid top dollar for a pair of front hubs and drums so I could keep the ball moving replaced the shackles so I could sitting her on the ground.
Then asked Dirty (fool) Fuel to come past and help me drop the engine & box in. Then more drama the spring eyes just about touch the axle with the weight of the engine in ,so out with the spring pack again and have the main leaf shortened.
Sorry some of up loads are not in order as I haven't posted for a while and all my pics are mixed up I also converted the a gen to 12volt and had a mate machine up a spacer to mount the fan closer to the radiator ]
After removing engine and box again fitting a new clutch & pressure plate all went well so time to fit up the fenders. Thanks for your help Dirty Fool. Still a bit to go yet.
Looks fantastic, very well done. It is very clearly a hot rod now, although none of the things that made it such a nice restoration were lost in the build, it's just right.
Thanks for the support guys still a long way to go, wiring hoping to do it all in traditional cloth. Have to finish of brake lines, need to make a new toe board. Not to sure what to do exhaust wise??? I have blasted and painted up a couple of sets of manifolds but not too sure what size pipe or even muffles to use. Wanting to stay era correct. Your input would be great. And she needs to sound tuff! Thanks
Just a suggestion. I haven't installed mine, so can't exactly vouch for the sound. No doubt some one else will chime in. Established in 1931 according to their website http://portermufflers.com
Second the Porters, they just sound right, deep and not too raspy like glass packs. I've run them on pretty much everything I built. The Smitty's I have on my '39 sound good too, but are a bit loud and get a little old after miles of highway speeds. There'e getting replaced with Porters too as soon as I get around to it.
Guys -- Thanks for the reviews of Porters based upon real-life experience. I was thinking about Smitty's for mine, but now I'm leaning toward the Porters. They're a bit pricey, but then when you're building a car, what isn't?
Thanks guys looking like Porters is the way to go. Hopefully someone in Australia stocks them???? But it's looking like another costly shipping bill Thanks for the advise Waxhead ,RainerHooker & studebaker46
