Mo, I think the amount of material left over from shortening the hood trim will be enough to fill where the door handles go. As far as the coupe I scored a complete set of convertible trim for the coupe. It only took four years to locate trim. The leftover hood/door trim while be used to fill the space for the longer quarter trim on the short door model coupe.
Eric The Merc looks great and you can now enjoy it. The sway bar is missing on my 41, but found one on ebay complete with new swivels and bushings. Can you post a pic of how the bar and swivels attach to the axel. thanks in advance, keep up the good work. Dave
Haven't got to do a lot of shake down runs yet, so I'll update later with any rubbing issues...I haven't noticed any backing out of the drive way or the short trips around the block. The tires are 650-16....thanks for following along.
I'm amazed at the smile these Mercs have, mine makes me smile when I look at it and I'm sure yours has the same effect on you. take care, Dave
The plate can wait (indefinitely)! Now for the fun! I really enjoy the pictures. The spot lights look great, as does the shave. The primer spots don't detract. What are your plans for the running boards? I'd treat the rust and make them black! Then I'd go ahead and drop the rear plate to the bumper, deck the lid, lower the tail lights, and put as many miles on the car as it will go! (The hood and side trim also look great, as is!)
@jamesd I've always wonder that too. The 41 Fords/Merc have such good looking front ends in comparison. Thanks Chris Thanks, Mo we're thinking on the same page. I've got a new set of running board covers that I'll put on this weekend. I'm going to move the license plate to the bumper and lower the taillight a and she's done for now. Stay tuned I'll post some pictures up this weekend of us enjoying the car
Rik put his touch on one of my photos. Looks like it came out of a scrapbook from back in the day....Love It
Used to seeing Rik colourize old B&W photos - now he's de-colourizing new ones!! Nice! Car looks great Eric! Dave
As I've been pondering bumper ideas for this car, I realized I had a 39-41 Lincoln Zephyr bumpers. I have the front and rear, but the rear just wouldn't like right on this car. I plan on modifying the Mercury bumper to accommodate the Lincoln center insert. I think it's a simple modification that fits the nose of these 41 Mercs perfect.
Shipped the skirts to Garlands Sacramento to get the right shape and fit. Dropped the car back off at Faded Live Garage for a little shaving, shortening and one piecing going on
