Can anybody ID these? I'm thinking early Halibrands...

They are 15x10". Was it common for early Hal's to be unmarked? From what years?

  4. Often the part number, size and "Halibrand" markings would be sanded down when the wheels were polished - unlike the Chinese Hals, the old ones had raised casting marks that could be completely eradicated to smooth the wheels out.

Some once-loved Shore Calnevar twin rib composite wheels. Remnants of candy apple red paint. Rare? Maybe not but certainly unusual.

My avatar is my right front wheel. (Romeo Palamides 2-piece, F100 style.
Chuck Turner had Romeo cast up some of these just before he sold the company to American Racing. The style has 5 wide spokes, center spined, large protruding hub, and a center cap. Looks like a 'Kelsey-Hayes' style. This wheel preceded the 5 spoke Torq Thrust)
For a few of you that asked for a pic...still working on how to do that!

Anyway, my Dad gave me the set he found at swaps, all 4@ 6" wide...
Last year, he gave me the original set that was on his '29 roadster! (2@ 6", and 2@ 5")
The wide set is on my F100, the wide & narrows are on my F-1. Aluminum Palamides caps were wiped out, so I used CHP Mustang center caps, spaced into the slots with a circle of vacuum hose...

    How about these:

Apparently so rare that no one can decide what they came off of. They are non-adjustable bent-spoke 17"x3.75" wires with a 5x5.5" bolt pattern and Motor Wheels Corp. stamps. I've heard Chrysler, Packard, aftermarket, and lots of other theories. I think they are optional 1935 Lincoln wheels but I won't know for sure until I find some OEM hubcaps that fit the odd sized holes. They now reside on the back end of my '28 Tub.

That's a rarely seen Rader wheel. The only car that comes to mind with them on it, was the Tom McMullen '32 after he put the 427" Ford in it.

Did some trading with a buddy, and ended up with these...not really rare, but, certainly getting harder, and harder to find in this size:
    15 x 14 Ansen's
    15 x 3.5 Fenton Gyro's on new 6.00-15 Goodyear Power Streak's...(polished)

Nope, definitely Shore Calnevar Cyclones, Alcoa center castings with Shore-Calnevar cast in. Fenton Hawks might be identical, Fenton pretty much existed on copies of other equipment, or Fenton may have even purchased/resold the Shore wheels. S-C did much of the same with sombrero type wheel covers, etc. Lots of overlap and clone wheels back then.

The front wheels in post #792 are probably Mickey Thompson. A friend has a pair and that's what he says they are marked on the back... He's a wheel nut too. The McMullen roadster used the same looking front wheel for a while...

Black Panther: I believe Dick Rader made his wheels and sold them private label to a number of different company's . If you look in Hot Rod magazine July 1965 issue page 34; you can see this wheel in the Wheel Corp. of America ad. Edit: This wheel is also shown as model DBR-990 in the Nov 1965 Hot Rod page37 Rader ad.

Bowie....you're probably right.....I'm just relaying what I was told...that his are marked Mickey Thompson....they're very rare...and certainly period...but really look kinda 80s to me...it's odd to see those wheels on a car 45 50 years ago...

They were certainly a unique style. I can see why they never caught on. If I wouldn't be such a computer illiterate ,I would scan and post a couple of the ads... Hafta learn to...one of these days.

I bought these yesterday on Facebook, haven't got here yet, suppose to be NOS and from looking at the photos, I believe it, I was really excited till I went to the Radir website and looked at the Radir reproductions, OOPS, these come Left and Right? (see last photos) So what, I bought 4 all one side? does anybody know about these the way Mickey did it?

Not super rare.. But first reissue of American Racing Torque Thrust D, Use full length shank lug nut thru the rim ... Compared to the set I bought for my 62 Bonneville wagon(acorn lug nuts, finish of rim pales to these first re-issues).. These are a way nice , lip and spoke finish... My friend waited a while when he bought these re-issues some 20 + years ago...

That looks like the back side, any pics of the front?

  29. lots of cool wheels here. i recently bought some bear paws. they had some goodyear blue streaks mounted on them. i only needed the rims. the tires are nice. they would be perfect for a funny car or dragster that is being restored. they were on the gretchko bros fuel altered. old rubber in good shape is hard to find. i won't use them and someone out there is looking for them.
