  2. Not sure which one is yours but the 2 pictured have the correct box on both of 'em. Big wheels and tires may make it look narrow.

As I understand it, they brought out the redesigned light duty trucks as uni-bodies, but were not well received. They reverted to seperate cab/bed, but while they tooled up the new bed they used the old tooling. Which is why 61's look mid-matched.

In 61 Ford used a cab and fleetside box combined as one unit but found when loading the truck, the sheet metal buckled and cracked. They took the box from the previous year, 60, to use until a matching style was designed. Had one back then.

  5. '61 to mid '63 was the years Ford built the unibody trucks; the cab/bed were all one piece. But Ford still needed a separate cab/bed setup for some models, so they used the '57/60 beds on those. There were some 'correct' beds built starting in '62, but it was hit and miss as to what truck got what. The 4WD versions got the separate 'old' bed until '64 because the 'matching' bed didn't have enough rear wheel/tire clearance for oversizes.

they are the same truck I put smaller tires on it after I bought it
ok cause I seen 2 wheel drive with the wright box on it
mine also have the smaller wheel opening in the front I was told they came that way with the tire size

  7. All 4x4's 61-66, except the '66 F-100 4x4, had the early(wrong) beds factory installed. Many 2wd trucks did also till '64 when they went to the matching bed.

The bottom line is that bed is correct for that truck and all 4x4s except flareside till 65. In 66 the F100 used the conventional 64-66 bed while 250 and bigger used the earlier bed again except for flareside 4x4s.
    Here is a good example of a 63 F100 2wd "wrongbed"[IMG]

The larger fender openings were for larger trucks. I do not know for sure if some 4x4s F-100s and 250s came with the larger "big truck" fenders or if they were retrofitted by the owners.
There is a molding line there on the light duty fenders and they can easily be trimmed to that line and look right. They'll look the same a Big truck fender especially if the lip edge is rolled over after cutting.
It does seem that way doesn't it? I did not mean it too. I was just wanting to add a little to what you said and I did not mean to correct.

My friend just bought a '62 f-100 with the same thing. We thought it was a different than stock bed, but it turns out ford did this on purpose. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1442075961.363373.jpg
