I spoke to Billy Lynch last week and I've met Rapid Red Lang in person and we've talked over the years,he was the 2nd driver of Ingenue after Coney Island Ralph Landolphi stepped out of the seat... The GSTA car was ALWAYS super sano...their stuff was unbelievable...just never understood why they ran their scoops backwards?
This one isn't really a T/G car, its actually a BB/GD, but its someone who later became pretty famous. I saw him race at Mission pretty often in the seventies. BIG name. Anybody know who this is? If Hemi deuce is watching, he might nail this...Pretty tough, you would have to know the car, and its obscure, driver sure isn't...

PARIS BROTHERS….Rico and Peter left their mark on drag racing from the late 50’s until the mid 70’s both as winners and innovators. Rico began his driving career at the helm of go-karts in 1958, competing on a circuit that ran throughout Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin. But those close-to-the ground creations weren’t enough to satisfy his “need for speed”, so in 1959 he switched to quarter-mile action, beginning with a series of Stockers and Super-Stockers. Then in 1964, he joined forces with his brother Pete and together they purchased their first dragster. It was powered by a blown 301” Chevy on gas and for the next two seasons earned a reputation as somebody to be aware of. With Rico driving and Pete doing the tuning, this car dubbed “Poor boys” made runs in the low 8’s at speeds over 180 miles-per-hour, which was good enough to set a 1320 drag news record in it’s class at that time. In 1966, the brothers moved up once again. This time they moved to Top Gas Eliminator class. They ordered a brand new chassis from Logghe Stamping and had Chris “the Greek” Karamesines build them a blown 392 hemi to power it. Then they went on a rampage, winning races and setting records wherever they chose to compete. One of the first AA/Gas dragsters over 200 and under 7.50 seconds, they won back-to-back UDRA titles for their class. In March of 1968 they journeyed west to Bakersfield for the U.S. Fuel and Gas Championships and won Top Gas honors in their class, by defeated the likes of the Freight Train and Bill “the kid” Scott in the process. But if that wasn’t enough, a few months later the team journeyed to Englishtown, New Jersey and the NHRA Springnationals, where they proceeded to win Top Gas at that one also.
My old buddy Jerry Hill @ Spokane, Wa. Blown Gas is one of the hardest to tune, Jerry used to tell me, "there isn't any horsepower in cans", you better have it right when you leave the shop. With Dave Wedlake's tuning skills and co-owner of the car, they were very successful in the NW.
Bill Dunlap at Fremont.The match race with Arigoni-Gregg for the No. 4 spot on the Drag News Mr. Eliminator list; unbeknownst to Bill, chaos was reigning on the track behind him - Glenn Gregg lost control of the race car and scooted over into Bill's lane and came ever so close to the Oswald-Dunlap machine. <Rich Welch photo>
Thanks Marty for the Ernie Hall pic, he was one of the greats. COME ON GUYS! We need some more pics, like the Gaslight, Beacon Auto Parts, Porche Brothers, to name a few. My memory is going fast, there were a zillion top gas cars. Let's see 'em! Remember the period in 65-66 when Top Gas cars were running 8.20 slicks?! Obviously before slipper clutches.
I gotta get some more up here, but no time. Gotta take the kid swimming. This thread is really shaping up, Marty that is an AWESOME shot of the Hill car, I saw that car run at Mission when I was a kid.

Well, this is cheating a bit, but heres a modern photo of Bucky Austins T/G car I was talking about earlier. Somewhere here I have a bunch of period photos of this car, but I'll be damned if I can find them right now...
Notice that my dad's car is #134 on that list with Steve Malise driving,7.955 in 1969 and because they were the only car in the country running an 8-71 blower...Big speed @ 194.80!

Do you know if that was an OEM Detroit 8v blower case? Don't recall those angled mounting bolts on any aftermarket blower intakes of the period. You see them now and then on street cars, BDS, etc.
I believe Big himself experimented with the 8-71 in 65 or so, perhaps earlier.Unless they had a bigger fuel pump and more cam, it wouldn't have been better. The combination was abandoned. I've also seen a car by a guy named Fran Licata in NY ran a "GMC 6.110" on his top gas car. Huh? Not familiar with this. From Popular Hot Rodding, Dec. 1963
Always very stout runners, Pusch & Cain ran top gas for years, even won Indy in 67 before switching to funny cars. Restored
