I am biased but I love the way the fenders flow on a 35, especially the rear, there is a nice little kick up / duck tail sweep.
    Thanks for posting. pendine.jpg

  7. While I've never seen a two door sedan done up as a Westergard custom....I am positive it would be a feast for the eyes....and I'm also positive someone will soon post a pic' of what I have not seen....would look like. Surely that was agreeable in the past ? If not....go get it man. Sounds great!

I've always thought the 35 is prettier than the 36

  11. A little bit of a tangent, but I've noticed that artist's rendering of a car in old brochures tend to make the cars look chopped 2 or so inches. I would say this is true for the 35 Ford. I have a brochure for my 38 Chevy, as well as for my 40 Ford, and they both look like they have a mild chop. See, Hot Rodders are just trying to get the cars to look like they were originally intended.

A three window for me, please. And I too like the little kick-up at the rear.

My first car was a '35 five window in '77, when you still couldn't give these cars away! I got it because a paperboy who worked part time at his family's business could afford it. it soon sprouted a 265 Chevy on an adaptor, hydraulic brakes, and a dropped axle courtesy of the neighborhood "older guys" that were already seasoned hot rodders. Friends I have to this day! by '79 when it was a running, drivable car, it was sooooooo far out of step with the current way of doing things that it got no attention at all. Today it would be right at home.

I would love to have another 5 window. So much prettier than the 3 windows in my opinion. A slant back Tudor or a Cabriolet would ultra high on the list too! Just make it a '35 instead of a '36...

Yes, the artist gave her a haircut...

Maybe even lowered her a couple of inches.

I'll take a roadster, please, with twin carbs, twice pipes, Spun Aero Discs, and a Duvall windshield. It's the car Jake Gittes should have had!

All '35 Ford fans should own Woudenberg's "Ford in the thirties" book...it contains a detailed and appreciative analysis of the styling and its superiority to the more popular '36. It's a pretty easy book to find.
For me, a roadster. Tops on Fords are a silly idea.

Although I really like 'em, I always thought the grilles on the '35's were too old looking for the style of the car. In my opinion, the '36 got it right, going full-blown Art Deco.

My first Hot Rod T-Shirt in the mid 1970s was a '35.Love the lines of that car and the customizing would have to be minimalistic like the Westergard Kustom,as they are pretty darn close to perfect.

Looks to me like the artist was looking at a 35 Dodge or a 35 Plymouth when he drew that picture, then changed to the Ford front end. Gene

In the book "Edsel Ford and E.T.Gregorie: The Remarkable Design Team and Their Classic Fords of the 1930s and 1940s " by Henry Dominguez (great book) Edsel and Gregorie had a bit of a fall out about the 35 Ford. Gregorie pretty much dammed it as having a snub nose, way too short a hood, tail heavy etc.
It does make you wonder about the illustrations that came from the factory, perhaps done in such a way to compensate for some of the design flaws. Not that I think any of Ford's design in the thirties is flawed of course, particularly the 35.
Bruce, I agree about the Woudenberg book, a must have for every Ford geek.
    Gordon.
