I am just putting my set up together here is what I used, 1. 2004 GTO throwout bearing 2. pre 86 168 tooth flywheel and clutch kit 3. Pete & Jakes model A brake and clutch pedal kit(2040?) with a wilwood mc with a 3/4" bore. stock on the GTO was .70 so I am at .75 should work fine. 4. trans is out of a 1999 S-10. I'll post pictures when I get it all installed, the shifter falls right where I need it in my 31 A coupe. I payed more for the pete & jakes stuff than the trans. This all on a sbc 350.
what is the engine this trans going behind, because if its a sbc,(pre 1986 will need a pre 1986 168 flywheel),,( post 1986 will need a post 1986 168 flywheel) ,,pretty sure a 4.3 flywheel will not work.. im collecting parts for my 1934 tudor im gonna start building soon and it's getting an Nv3500 trans,,
Yep thats true, thats what i did. I have the setup unused, id sell. But im not sure if hillbilly heaven is anywhere near me.

Does anynoe have the measurements form the front face to the shifter locations on the S10 version, and the full size? Further up in the post, reference is made to the s10 shifter being located on the tailhousing.
new info... buy this fitting, press the roll pin out of the stock hydraulic throwout and you can run standard line instead of the modern Push lock stuff. will help with throwout issues. http://www.jegs.com/i/Russell/799/640281/10002/-1
I have had to replace second gear shift fork a few times. I suppose if your driving miss daisy they are ok but mine has been a pos. Apparently there are two different types, the best has an adjustable shift tower that will keep from breaking shift forks
I have a NV 3500 (Getrag 5 speed) in my '31 Chevy Truck. It's out of a '90 GMC that had a 305. I bolted it to a pre-'86 SBC, with stock Slave. Used Luk flywheel and Luk 10" clutch. (had to buy new because the 305 stuff was 1 piece rear main seal) I am running Pete and Jakes pedal combo with Wilwood Masters. I recently bought this really cool Short Throw Hurst Combo from a guy selling them on Egay...200$
im getting ready to do this also. ive got a 99-07 nv3500 to put behind a 283. why do you use the 4.3 clutch instead of the 5.7?
I ran one behind my 383 stroker in my 60 Apache. Drag raced it and drove it daily. It was noisey but never failed. I'd mashed the living snot out of the thing and it still ran a 9.2 in the 1/8th. Losta wheel spin. Of course when you creat traction you will find your weakiest link.
I'll add this for folks new to the thread...the AX15 is also a stout 5-speed and Novak has an adapter that allows you to use a GM oem bellhousing so some of the clutch/flywheel issues might go away. A warning at this point is that the AX15 was used in many many different vehicles with a variety of input shaft lengths. Some of the GM applications might be simple bolt-ups, not sure, dunno anything about GM stuff. Info: http://www.qualityengineeredcomponents.com/?page_id=69 .
I have a 2000 s-10 NV3500 that I am trying to mate to a 1967 283 for mywife's 1949 Ford f-1. Can't seem to find a clutch and pressure plat to bolt to a 168 tooth flywheel. This is a two-piece rear seal small block chevy I am and the pressure plate bolt pattern is on an 11" circle. Any help would be much appreciated. Fordrust
I know this thread is old, but maybe people have some new info.... Will this transmission hold up to a mild (less than 500hp) bbc?
I'm using one in my '40 pickup behind a mild SBC. I had one in a 95 gmc and went 200K + with it. A little work with a tape measure showed that the mount location is the same as a T400, so a regular CE trans plate for the x member was perfect. shifter comes up in just the right place in the floor. I will be trying to adapt the Mustang clutch cable to the stock pedal assembly and the throwout arm per a thread on here
I am planning one of these in a 36 sedan behind a SBC. Still working out the details. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
i ran one behind a 348 in my 55 chevy and loved it. several buddies ran them too. they seem to hold up well. i've got behind a 354 hemi in my 48 plym but it's not on the road yet. check out "core shifter" they resurected the old hurst designed shifter. http://www.core-shifters.com/servlet/StoreFront
I know this thread is a bit old but I may be able to shed a bit of light on the subject. I have built a 32 Ford extended cab pickup. I used an old sbc 327 hooked up to the NV3500 also known to me as a Getrag 290. the rear is an eight inch ford out of a 76 Ford Mavrick (2.73). We recently took the truck from Ocala, Florida on a 2800 mile field trip out and back to a car show at Mc Garther Field out on Long Island, New York. I will report that it will be a cold day in Hell before I take my little truck back to New York or New Jersey again. Anyway, with this set up the truck cruses at about 65 mph with the engine turning about 1500 to 1600 rpm. These results were the goal from the start and everything seems to have worked out as planed.
I tried to up load a picture of the truck but the window error says the file is too large - what ever that means? Yes, that means the file is too large but with my limited computer knowledge I will have to learn a bit more about how to do it.
What did it take to adapt this transmission to the 354. This would solve some problems for me. While I'm asking, has anyone else out there run these behind anything other than a Chevrolet?
If you use a trans from a 4.7 - 5.2 or 5.9 Mopar then it will, of course, have a small block bolt pattern and the 'usual' LA bell housing adapter is all you need ...well besides the flywheel stuff. See info on my web site on various flywheels. .
I used one in my 40 sedan and did not like it at all. Came from around a 94 S10 with 4.3( had an external slave and shifter was closer to the firewall than the later ones). The shifter was in a good location but it just did not shift real smooth. I replaced it with a world class T-5 and I am much happier. I have about 6000 miles on the T-5 and it shifts way smoother. I have a .030 over 350, flat top pistons, mild cam and have no issues with the T-5. I would not recommend the NV 3500, it did not work well for me.
i used this adapter, http://www.hothemiheads.com/transmission_adapters/hemi_chevy_manual.html i think it's made by wilcap. there are probably several other suppliers. i think the s10 version is different than the full size that i used. i went with the chevy version because they seem to be a lot easier to find in my neck of the woods. plus they fit all my chevies. here's some good info. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Venture_Gear_3500_transmission
