Here's a Packard model 30 with so many mods it's near impossible to tell what year or body style this started out as. The happy guy with the car and lady friends is Edward Schoch of St. Paul, MN. Age old formula: cut down car = chick magnet. Minn. Hist. Soc. photo.

Here's a Saxon with four more people on it than it could ever hope to carry.

A White bus in front of a train depot, in an eBay snapshot. No big deal, until I sent it to a train history friend who identified it as Ashburnham, MA and he then elaborated on this deceivingly modest view. History worth sharing:

"B&M's Ashburnham Branch was a five or six mile affair that wasn't overly prosperous. Before or as result of the flood of 1927, the railroad sought a way to economize on operating expenses and put the bus in service to satisfy the passenger service. The approach was a success and was replicated on other light-traffic lines, leading to a separate division in the B&M organization. They next dabbled with airplane service and that took off. Then it was trucks for light-service freight routes. Ultimately the array of transportation services was so successful that it ran afoul of antimonopoly laws and they had to divest the non-rail operations. With their wings clipped on the airline came the birth of Northeast Airlines, which eventually was subsumed into Delta."

These three pix were taken of U.S. cars in Mexico and are shown in the "What Is It" section of the Surrey Vintage Vehicle Society site, SVVS NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL INFORMATION ASSISTANCE in Britain. The feature has solved a lot of mysteries, and WHO doesn't love a dare?

Here's another modified and rakish number - a Packard twin six, first series (1916). L head V12, 424.1 cu in.

One of my favorites. 1931. My grandfather shaving using the reflection in the paint of his car. Proof that old lacquer paint was pretty glossy...

1911 model 18, judging from the straight rear fender.

No ladies this time - just the guys having fun with a speedster. Smoke 'em if you've got 'em. Can anyone identify the make?

No men this time, just these serious looking ladies and a Packard V12 (model 906) sedan. They do not look like they would associate with the cigar chompin' speedster guy, but we know who had more fun.

It seems today when you see a picture of a race car and driver the driver is in front of the car, in this picture the cars are the most important and are out front.

Real traffic, in the Bronx? This is the Bronx Pelham Parkway, circa 1914 judging from the near new '14 Packard on the right. Yesterdays' traffic looks like today's Brass and Gas Tour. NYPL photo.
