Not sure if it's really a tech, but someone might appreciate it. It's my first time messing with headers, so I kept it pretty simple. I bought a Speedway lakes pipe kit for an SBC and was going to use my flanges for a Studebaker. I like the zoomie look a lot better than the lakes pipe, so I just used the 1.5" pipes from the kit.

Sorry if the pics are too big, Flickr either has huge or smallish pics. I like huge pics better.

    Pipes from Speedway

    Cut 'em up

Smack the hell out of the end with something blunt until the round peg fits the square hole.

The middle pipe takes a bit more work. Square up the end the same, but do a little slice and dice.

I needed a fancy little doo-woppy-type curve to clear the steering arm, so I had to cut the pipe and turn it up and sideways then down.

    Bit o' welding and patching

Flap wheel, filing, DA, sandpaper, and a bunch of cursing

Final product. I'm pretty pleased with it. I think I will paint them black, maybe get them coated.

Super Duper. If you are into that sort of thing, I suppose.

I picked them up at the Hunnert Car Pileup the year before last. I wish I knew who it was, because they are really nice.

The "doo-woppy-type curve" is the best part. It would look too plain without it.

Some years ago I was at Fremont drags and everybody was talking about the Frantic Four Top Fuel car and their new Zoom headers. I looked at them and thought they were nice but when they left the line, I was floored. In those days fuel cars smoked the tires for the full quarter. Sometimes the drivers would get smoked in at the start and loose sight of where they were going. When Zoomies replaced Weed Sweepers the exhaust blew the smoke up in the air away from the drivers line of sight. The point of this is I notice younger people calling regular indivgual tube headers Zoomies. Look at a nostalga Top Fuel car. Those are zoomies.

Eh, I was kinda out of the car thing for a little while, I'm back now. I usually never post, I have a lot more to learn before I feel I have any right to comment on anything.

Never heard that before. Weed sweeper sounds pretty cool too, I can live with that. :)

Before Zoomies the smoke stayed at about tire hight. The first time WRH&F left with the zoom headers the smoke was 20 feet tall. You should have heard the crowd. It was for sure Zoomie.

if you picked up the flanges at the Hunnert, i would guess they are Victory Flanges. Hot Rod Chassis and Cycle is the shop behind the operations and are top notch through and through, from fab work to their flanges

I have a few little pits here and there, would they be filled in if it was coated or chromed, or will I have to put little tacks on those spots and grind them back smooth?

You sure are one major league shitter! Your headers look amazing. When I got done with my car one of my biggest regrets was not spending any extra time on the headers. Yours look so good I would spend the extra time to fix the pinholes and maybe get them chromed. Even if you dont chrome them I would still fix all the holes and get them jet hot coated.

Oh, and if you do decide to get them chromed you will most definately have to make them perfect. Chrome shows everything.

Yeah, had to work on the dash so I had to pull your sticker off. I couldn't bear to throw it away, so I just relocated it.
