Had a 63 1/2 Falcon Sprint i got in my Jr year.(71) Put a K series 289 in it then a buddy bought it & totaled it. In senior year got it back and put that motor in this little 62 Club Wagon I bought front my neighbor. Painted it in the back yard a couple years out of school. Daily driver for over ten years, around 100K miles. It ran the 1/4 in 14.00 @ 100 mph, surprised a lot of folks... 20200501_112248.jpeg 20200501_112256.jpeg 20200501_121857.jpeg

  2. Class of '71. My car was an OT '70 454/4-speed Vette roadster that I still have. Made enough money shoveling blacktop during the summer months to pay the insurance and car payments all year. Go my first Model A ('30 Deluxe Coupe) during the Summer after graduation and started working on it. Still have it too. With the Covid, shutdown, my hair is about the same length as it was during High School (only slightly more gray now).

Dad ordered this '56 Merc Monterey. He took our family all over North America in it. He gave it to me late in my senior year of high school . Senior Prom. ..... then destruction after 7 months of ownership. A happy ending may finally be in sight. A friend from Winnipeg Beach, Manitoba has a brother Monterey. Hoping to bring it home John & '56Merc Promnight.jpeg l956 Merc l8 copy.jpeg FILE44591.jpeg

57 Bel Air 4 door sedan, 283/Turboglide that blew up and swapped to a TH350. Hot shit in 2001, and I drove the hell out of that car for the relatively short time I owned it. My girlfriend at the time was a freshman at the University of Delaware, so every other weekend I was making the trip down the NJ Turnpike to do damage at UD as high school senior. GREAT times.

This pic was from the spring of 2002 when I had the car up for sale. Funny story about that. One morning that February I was sitting in a row of traffic outside of my high school when some dope I went to school with plowed into the back of me with his parent's SUV. I wasn't hurt, but (rightly) made a police report since there was quite a bit of damage to my car. The kid's father didn't want to go through insurance since his son had had his license less than a month before rear-ending me, so I got a fair estimate from a decent local collision shop, which was about $4000, and I gave it to him. I guess the guy went to my high school to look at my car, because the next night I got a phone call at home from him screaming at me, "I'm NoT rEsToRiNg YoUr FuCkInG Car! YoU gO tHrOuGh YoUr InSuRaNcE aNd CoLlEcT yOuR $50..." and then he hung up on me. So I went through his insurance, which sent me to another body shop in town. When I brought the car there for an estimate, the owner comes out, looks my car over, and says to me, "Come in the back". We walk in the back room of the shop and he had two 57 Bel Airs; one convertible, one 2 door hardtop. He says to me, "Your car is fucking awesome. I'll take care of you". And he did, he wrote the estimate to basically the highest amount of damage he could have without totaling the car, and the insurance company paid, including my deductible. Realizing I didn't want to keep driving a 4 door, I pocketed the insurance money, sold the car as a running and driving project, took a few parts off it, and bought the 57 Ford custom 300 2 door that I still have 19 years later.

  12. Well I never owned a camera until 1980 and graduated high school in '72. I changed cars as often as most kids changed their socks.

    Anyway no pics.
  13. Even though I graduated in 2012 I'll still play along. Started in 2009 Drivable 2011.....Never finished.

Never took pictures of my cars back in the 60's when I was in high school. Just seemed like developing costs took money away from car parts, so I didn't.
My first ride was a 1947 International panel truck I bought from my uncle before I was old enough to drive. I spent all my money fixing it up so when I turned 16 I could have it ready to drive to school, and work afterwards. Then in '67 I bought my parents '57 Chev Belair, and thought I'd really gotten a true hotrod at last. I immediiately began to change tires and wheels, add speed parts to the 283, and as my mom said, "ruined the car". But my dad said it looked great!

  17. my second high school hot rod

Damn, some of you guys had nice rides. I had to use my parents Rambler station wagon for dates. The only good thing about it was the front seats reclined all the way. The deal was I could have a car when I could pay for it and the insurance. I got my first one a 1956 Plymouth Plaza when I was 18 and working.

Don't have a photo, but I had a red/red '64 Impala with (later) large journal 327, 600 Holley double-pumper, Muncie 4-sp, 8" steel wheels all around, 2 1/2" pipes with glasspacks that both came out behind the passenger door (NASCAR style is what the seller told me). Miss that car.....

  20. I don't have any pic's but in High School senior year I had a dark Jade Met. 57 Chevy 2 dr with a 348 and Muncie 4 speed, Tri-power, and used to cruise the North side of Milwaukee ( Villard ave. ) and some pretty quick runs down Wisc. Ave downtown Milwaukee. Anyone who was around then and ran the circuit will remember that car. I sold it a couple of days before going to Viet Nam in July of 1967 for $ 550.00:(:(

IMG_1326.JPG IMG_1325.JPG My high school ride in 2004 was a 66 Ford custom short bed. Not sure if that’s hamb friendly but the 390 was out of a 63 Galaxie lol Torino t10 trans with a locker rear. (best pic I had was one with a deer head on the hood ...sorry) Had lots of fun with that truck...daily we would pile 4 of us in there and would come into school and chirp the tires down shifting into the parking lot. As soon as we would leave the parking lot I would nail it and engage the limited slip rear. It was a good looking truck with all the chrome. Definitely a hot rod and not an old man truck...

Second is my t project I bought in 11th’s still in the same state today...not much of a “ride” lol but I thought I would throw it in for fun. have everything just need the distracted with college, family etc you know how it goes...

  23. I had a 66 F-100 Custom Cab longbed in high school. Mine had an FE as well. The P/O told me it was a 390 too, but what did I know? Mine was black with red interior. Mom and Dad only let me buy it because they never figured I’d get it running. Oh boy did I show them! That is the truck I wish I had today.

Nice! Yea looking back I am not sure why my parents were cool with it. Way to much hp for a 15/16 year old. On mine the p/o said it was a: 427 (really a 390 bored out but with 427 m/t valve covers) a borg and Warner 4 speed (really just a Torino 4 speed) haha! He probably saw me coming. Up until a few years ago I would see him around town still. I got rid of mine because gas was up to 1.75 in ‘05 and it was getting 10-12 mpg... I thought that was unsustainable when I was commuting 30 miles daily to college. Glad I did, I remember being so damn poor paying for gas in pocket change and I was driving a Ford Focus!

Not a hot rod in general terms, but it sounded fast in highschool during the early 90’s. It was 1 of about 5 old cars driven to my highschool.

It was my first car, bought in 1990 or 91 and I still have it 30 years later.

Mine was a high school "hot rod" project and didn't actually get finished until I was pushing 40. Here is a picture of it shortly after high school.
