  1. For the record, "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" was not sung by Karloff (he narrated), it was Thurl Ravenscroft (he was also the voice of Tony the Tiger).

"Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" was written as a promotion for Montgomery Ward and appeared in their catalogue in 1949.

The "traditional" Santa is wearing Coca-cola corporate red and white. Coke needed a way to sell product during the winter in the late-20's. He was drawn by a dude with the unlikely name of Haddon Sundblom (maybe he knew Thurl Ravenscroft), and the model was Lou Prentice.

When I taught advertising at college I told a class that if they wanted to visit Santa he was buried in Michigan. One of the girls (this was 2nd year college) burst into tears.

Was my Grandma's favorite song. Chris does it better than almost anyone I've ever heard.

  5. To keep this topic HAMB-related, Haddon Sundblom also illustrated ads for Packard, Ford, Lincoln, Pierce-Arrow and Marmon.

Hellfish is co-DJing a show and he listed some of the Christmas songs he has... amongst my favorites are:

Blood Sausage - Fuck Christmas, Fuck Santa, Fuck You
The Residents - Dumbo the Clown (the clown that loved Christmas)
Killdozer - O Little Town of Deathlehem
    DDT - Captain Morgan's Christmas
The Roots - Mille Pulled a Pistol On Santa
Rimshots - Santa Stole My Whiskey
The Barnshakers - Santa's Got a Brand New Pedal Steel
Thorazine - Merry Stupid Fucking Christmas
The Showcase Showdown - Merry Christmas, I Fucked Your Snowman
Bantam Rooster - Let's Just Fuck For Christmas

I haven't heard any of these, but just by the titles, they are my favorites... Merry Christmas I Fucked Your Snowman. Priceless... :)

The "Millie Pulled a Pistol on Santa" that I know is by De La Soul. I'm not saying The Roots might not have done a version, but I'm just sayin.

My top ten I want to hear every year:

    Rusty Chevrolet. (Just Flat Funny)
Grandma got run over by a reindeer (My mother loved this one)
Santa Baby (Makes me think of Betty Boop)
I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas
All I want for Christmas is my two front teef (Another fun classic)
    Snoopy's Christmas
Chipmonks roasting on an open fire.
    White Christmas
    Silent Night
12 Days of Christmas (McKinzie Bros.)

The one song I DO NOT want to hear is "I'll be home for Christmas"
That one brings back memories of typhoons in the Tonkin Gulf and pressed turkey loaf sandwiches in the jungle. Also makes me think of all those who won't be home for Christmas. Here's to them...

  14. I'll bet no one knows this one.....................

I think Chip Foose likes "Jingle Bells"

It's been a good 24 hours since I've read a rant from "Fat Hack"

I'm confused. What does this thread have to do with "traditional hot rods and customs"?

  17. C'mon man, Santa drives the ultimate sled... and he built it himself... it's friggin' quick too.

    "Father Christmas" by the Kinks.

  19. OK then I'll HIJACK this post and make it on topic.
What's your favorite christmas song that you ever heard while cruising or watching the starts from the backseat of your '58 roadmaster and what super cool and hard to get hot rod parts are on your Christmas wash list.

    I'll start:
I wanna Holley 660 center Squirt (just one)
    A magneto for my roadster
A pair of narrow magnesium front runners preferably not spindle mounts.

And although it wasn't out yet I still like
Grand Maw Got Run-over by a Raindeer.

  20. 1-Mary did you know?
    2- Silent Night
    3-Any Christmas song by Elvis
4 -Bob And Doug's 12 Days of Christmas...... "And A Beer in a tree A"

Most probably dont remember this (if any) but Bing Crosby and David Bowie sang a version of the little drummer boy which was cool.

Also anything from the Trans Siberian Orchestra or Manhiem Steamroller.

Some ask what this has to do with Hot Rods? I say lighten up its Christmas.[IMG]
