I have a few aluminum parts that I bead blasted...Has anyone here actually used G.B. as a sealer? ...or does anybody have a good way to keep my dirty fingerprints off?? I know...wash my hands. Clear powdercoat, maybe? G.
According to the website, it does that very thing, as well as on magnesium. I should really get off my ass and order some, now that you mention it.
Clear powdercoat will work...just make sure to tell the coater not to use the etching wash on it. Otherwise, your nice aluminum parts will be dark gray. Hell, try the Gibbs. I want to know how it works too.
Yeah, I guess I just need to order some...was hoping someone here out of all the HAMBers had some hands-on xp... G.
[ QUOTE ] I have a few aluminum parts that I bead blasted. Has anyone here actually used Gibbs Brand as a sealer, or does anybody have a good way to keep my dirty fingerprints off? [/ QUOTE ] If you buy some Gibbs Brand from me and if you then apply it to bare, clean, bead-blasted aluminum (or any other metal) the way I recommend, and if you can then take your dirty, sweaty hand (unless it's greasy or something) and touch it and leave a stain, send the Gibbs back to me and I will give you your money back. [ QUOTE ] Clear powdercoat, maybe? [/ QUOTE ] Whether you use Gibbs Brand or powdercoating depends on whether you want your parts to look like bare metal (pure race car) or like they've been dipped in plastic. [ QUOTE ] I was hoping someone here out of all the HAMBers had some hands-on experience with Gibbs. [/ QUOTE ] After he tried it, Cole Foster bought a whole case of Gibbs Brand and said some nice things about it. And his father, Pat Foster bought a case and loves it too. Please read http://www.roadsters.com/gibbs/ Rumors of Gibbs being an unequalled personal lubricant are as yet unconfirmed. However, here at Roadsters.com World Headquarters, research is ongoing. Dave, what hoops do you have to jump through to ship aerosol cans? I wanted to ship some spray on antisieze and was told no-way by the USPS.
I bead blast a lot of intakes, how much does it take for a normal size intake and how long will it last? Ho, will fuel bother the coating?
[ QUOTE ] I bead-blast a lot of intakes. How much does it take for a normal size intake? [/ QUOTE ] That depends on how thick you put it on and how porous the material is. The way I suggest, a can should do at least twenty of them. [ QUOTE ] How long will it last? [/ QUOTE ] That depends on the environment that the parts are in. It's most effective when the surface feels slightly wet. I do my parts with it once or twice a year. [ QUOTE ] Will fuel bother the coating? [/ QUOTE ] Not that I'm aware of, but I suppose certain ingredients could affect it. I know that people use it to flush out the fuel systems on race cars that run on alcohol. You wouldn't put expensive paint over fingerprints or dirt, or Gibbs. Just use whatever cleaner / degreaser that the manufacturer of the paint system that you're using recommends. Cole told me that's what he has done and he's had no problems. Dave http://www.roadsters.com/
