I was fortunate to visit this neat station twice. The 1st time it was open and I bought some 'trinkets'. The 2nd time was last year and it was closed.:( Someone should save this piece of history. I noticed that someone in town has quite a collection of service station stuff but nobdy's home when I come callin':(

  13. My uncle owns the Glass shop on the main drag (US69 I think) in Atoka, OK. There is another old station building off Hwy 7 near Wapanucka west of Atoka. 7 and 69 intersect by the Walmart.

There's a great 20s-30s one in Trinity TX. A 20s-30s Gulf station in Fayetteville TX on the square. And many, many on Farm to Market roads, and state highways and byways throughout TX, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida's panhandle. Even in Houston, there are many, many old stations, some occupied by another style of business, some just there, check throughout the East side in particular.

The best thing about fillin stations of yesteryears was their gas wars.

Gasoline was cheaper than todays gas tax.

  25. Got this pic from my brother, who cut out of a magazine. I have no idea where it's from.. Maybe one of you do?

Here's couple pictures of old gas stations. The top one is birthday card I got a few years back... pretty cool HUH! That little pedal car would be fun to have.
The second picture is a friends '58 IH at an old station either in eastern Oregon or western Idaho.

  28. Breeder, there's a cool old station, still has the sign even, just before you get into Hannibal, turn onto Route W, you only have to go about a mile. It's been kept up in OK shape. I always wanted to get a pic of my car in front of it, but never did.
