I have always loved this building in Wilmington NC. Apparently it's NCs oldest tire dealership, in business since 1921. They have been in this building since the 40s.

  5. The little A Model in front is a plastic kit , yes a kit, from Jordan. Eyes haven't recovered from putting them little suckers together yet.:(

The little 32's are made by Ricko. These are assemble like your Hot Wheels etc. Not a kit. Easy find on ebay and other places on the net.

There are some good pot metal kits too like this Wheel Works deuce woody wagon.

    I trust this helps.

  6. Here is a pic of the actual Gilmore station that the HO model kit shown in post 293 was based upon.

A buddy of mine bought an old 2 bay 30's Texaco metal station. He's got it stored a trailer. Any offers?

This is an old {prefab?} metal building in Billings, Mo. You can still faintly read some of the old lettering along the top of the building.

I took a bunch of pictures of old buildings around town this summer, especially old gas stations. I'd like to have find some of my uncle's old Vickers gas station I hung out at in Carthage, Mo. as a kid. Have to get a hold of my cousin & see if he has anything.

This Barnsdall station was built in 1929 in Santa Barbara and is still there today off the 101 freeway.

This is a station on hwy. 43 in Moundville Mo. that I always try to hit on the way to the h.a.m.b. drags. It is still run by a gentleman who even in his mid 80's still offers full service, windshield, oil and all. This place is a real throwback inside and out. My first time there I was eyeballing a 60's vette on the rack when a guy came wheeling up on an old schwinn asking the owner for air felt like I was 10yrs old again. If you guys get a chance check this one out it won't be around forever. Pool.

Not really god pics but the best I could do tonight.

The first one is Main Street service station on Main Street in St Helena , Ca

The second is from Whittier. I am not sure if it was a station but it sure looks like it was.

  27. WALKER EVANS and the FSA PHOTOGRAPHERS
Check out Walker Evans - worked for the FSA (Farm Security Administration) starting in the mid 30's. He and the others shot the WPA photo collection that are now so famous. Lots of small town, rural poverty, depression era images. Among these are lots of street scenes with autos and sometimes filling stations. Several years ago I searched the entire collection in the nearby OSU library - the stuff was on microfisch and you could get the file # and order a print from the National Archives. Haven't checked by it may all now be online...Either way it's worth a look see!

Worley Store, circa 1925, overlooking Worley's Bottom, a little north of Downtown, TX. The modern Sinclair pump replaced the old visible pump in the 1950s. The store closed in the 1970s.
