    Good job Crazzzzz

We are leaving for Europe. Weather is better AND I hope to turn wrenches this Summer

Lots of little non-Ford bangers to sick together

  3. Sounds like fun- hope you're feeling better!

  4. Thanks again for the live link. My friend has a 29 Plymouth two door sedan. A stock model "A" will out run the Plymouth easily. I have really enjoyed the pictures of the four cylinder Plymouth/Dodge engines.

Well, I guess I'm kind of in the club by association now. My Dad (he's 72) just bought this '31 last week and guess who was nominated to work on it for him? ;) :D

I have a head identification question.

I came across this head in our "stash" of stuff we're getting ready to bring to a swap meet. From what I've read the "heart shaped" combustion chambers may mean something good as in higher compression

It's not a C as it has 4 water pump bolts. There are no markings on the head as far as numbers or letters. When layed out next to a stock head the combustion chamber appears to be smaller in the sense that the roof of the chamber of a stock head looks higher (or deeper depending on your point of view) I'm figuring that it may be a tractor head but I'm thinking there are others on here that have better experience and are more in the know. any help is very much appreciated.

  10. Thought I'd show my latest endeavor which leads to a question. All opinions are welcome.

I am setting up my car with this intake and the Yapp "Y" headers. I used this because I just liked the way it looked, and am very pleased at the result.

Now I have 2 exh outlets and have to decide to make a "header" for them and run a single exhaust or just run them separately to the rear.

Question is; does anyone know if the sound will be much different as true duals
or should I screw it and just do one pipe?

Will back pressure make much difference on this motor? Hi comp head, intake, exh, carb, electronic ignition.

Feel free to chime in please.

A single pipe will give you a smoother sound.

Something wrong with that PA. Tune it. I posted some Dodge pictures in the other May meet thread. Killed it dead. So I am going to do it again. Showing how tall the M&B Dodge Bros really is.

Muttley........Looks like pops found a nice car! Way to go.

  14. The sound will be reminiscent of a John Deere tractor if memory serves me. This was why very few people "split" the A B exhaust manifold. Splitting the manifold on a 6 cylinder car gave, to most, a pleasant sound. Some in southern California called an early Chevrolet 6 with a "split" manifold a "Mexican Jaguar" but I'm afraid your set up will sound some thing like "Yapp Yapp Yapp" Just kidding. Less back pressure will help. You better hang on tight!

If it REALLY sounds good at high RPM you may be able to see the con rods sooner than you like

  16. I always thought about two pipes that exit just in front of the rear tire on the passenger side. Then go for flame throwers. The visual effect will be greater than the audio effect.
This will drive NASCAR chicks wild. Just kidding

I have Red's headers on mine and they exit into one pipe. It still sounds like a Model "A" which is great with me.

  17. I get the mexi-jag sound you refer to..... probably not what I'm looking for ;)

:eek::eek: Not looking for that either! :D

Flame throwers.....Hmmmmm. Still thinking on that one

Looking like no real advantage to the labor and cost of duals. Probably just make a 2 into 1 collector for it and run one back. With optional flamethrower, of course:cool:

Yes, a 18" glass pack on each pipe close to the header.

I have the wrong type of headers on my engine. That is 1+2 in one tube and 3+4 in the other. I built it using two stock manifolds, cut out the center ports and welded the front and rear part. It sounds like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojxwBDjhIbU My coupe cruises by at about 3:40. Sounds OK to me, but I have straight pipes and it's a bit annoying when driving for an hour or two at 60 mph.

Very nice crazy oh to have that much room for headers ( steering on that side over here)

  26. Looks similar to a 14-9HP head in respect to the head depth and the recessed plugs, but the heart shape is more pronounced and it's flycut for the larger bore.

    Here's a shot of a 14-9 head next to a stocker.

OK I am about to kill another Banger thread with a Dodge Bros post. This is my way to pre oil the Dodge. I used a old 460 Ford oil pump that was around and some scrap metal. The hose had timed out on the shelf so I got it for free also. I did buy the bucket for $1.49 at the dollar store. It pumps 4 quarts really fast. The 3/8 drill running in reverse. So now to seal the side plate better.

In case anyone cares, I used a Ford oil pump because I have them left over from other projects. And the hex drive is easy to work with. A 302 pump would have worked just as well. But the 302 has a 1/4 hex drive and the 460 has 5/16. I have a bunch of 5/16 hex stock, so that made the 460 pump my choice

  30. Well I haven't any photos but I will describe my method of checking FORD A B oil pump pressure with pump out of the engine. I made a wring fit sleeve that covers the oil pump outlet area. I drilled and tapped this sleeve to accept fittings to attach an old oil pressure gauge. I align the hole in the sleeve to mate to oil outlet on pump. I then set the pump into a coffee can partially filled with oil. Made a shaft to drive the pump in the Bridgeport (drill press would work just as well) turn it on, hang on to pump, and read pressure. I use a converted early flathead V8 long shaft pump and they usually come with an eighty pound relief spring, 50 pound springs are available. I usually shoot for 35 40 pounds I adjust shortening the spring. Some use spacers under the pressure relief valve nut/cover.
Careful, can get messy, wear an old shirt and some sort of eye protection.
    Pretty high tech huh!
