Sbc 283 ........stamped on front block pad fi227d .any help appreciated,thank you

casting no. 3849852 on rear of block

 

It would be easier to decode if you gave us the numbers on the back of the block. (pass. side)

 

Don't you mean drivers side?

And the "D" in the suffix code could be a 1955/56 265 or a 1958-1964 283...so we need the block casting number on the rear/drivers side of the block.

 

the rear drivers side gives you the casting number , the rear passenger side (by the distributor) gives you the date the block was cast


example: on the passenger side on 283 on my engine stand it's H316......the block was cast August 31st 1966. it probably went into a 1967 model year car

the stuff stamped on the front right pad i don't understand and really doesn't matter to me
