Here a pic of my 1951 Shoebox Ford. Chopped 3" and sectioned 2",bagged , Fatman front end with Mustang11 components, Maverick rear and gambino taildragging kit, shaved door handles power dual antenna, front tires have already been replaced with the new ones I have on the rear Cooker's 6.70x15 with 2 3/4" whitewalls. More later to come.
Cripes--- Who in the heck started calling early 50's Fords "shoeboxes" I always thought tri-five Chevy's were the first.
Cool, but subtle, I like it. and to DDD, there was a thread on the shoebox name a while back. I never heard 55-57 Chevys called that myself. Got a Car Craft from about 64 that called the 49-51 Ford a shoebox.
Hey Willie---What's that standard HAMB line, oh I remember now. Pictures or it didn't happen. Just fun'n.
Fords earned the monicker "Shoebox" upon release, for their "slab-sided" styling. Prior, this was called "envelope" styling (front only), and was pioneered by Simca in 1946 (a MOMA milestone.) Studebaker followed suit in 1947, but still with protruding rear fenders. GM and Mopar followwed with "envelope" front fenders, while keeping the extended rear fender profiles. Chevy "Shoeboxes" inherited the name after the "54 madel year, due to FINALLY adapting the slab sided (Shoebox) styling pioneered by Ford in 1949. Clear enough? ()
Thanks for the lesson, now back to where this started, what a cool looking 'shoebox'! Not over done, but a good looking custom, any more pics? It'd be good to see it out side! Sent via carrier pidgeon & smoke signals with the HAMB App
Maybe more tomorrow .The motor and trans are not in it yet but I am rolling it out of my enclosed trailer and into my shop for much more work. It will be a 5.0 roller motor with AOD automatic with Lokar floor shifter. All the metal work is done including new floors and tunnel(for the bag drop) from the firewall back to the tail panel. Keeping it satin black for the time being.
In September it is coming off the frame for frame paint,Ridetech components install,engine/trans install(on stand now),etc. I'll shoot some suspension/steering chassis pics then Stay tuned and thanks for the kind words.
Small update on my Shoebox. The motor for my Shoebox is about finished. Just a dizzy cap, wires, plugs and carb away. It is a 5.0 1985 HO roller motor Going over the '89 AOD trans in the next couple of weeks to put behind it. Also a pic of the french tail light with Lee lenses.
Hope so...Haven't checked yet. I only have $50 in them ..New with gaskets and bolts. I modified the engine compartment a lot for other reasons I believe I could fit a FE motor in there now.
It's hard for me to tell, looking on my cellphone, what kind of headers they are but I can say that I have a set of equal lengthy fox body headers, and they do fit in my car. They clear the steering box pretty tightly ... But they do fit. I have pics in my photo album here on the HAMB.
Looks good! I have the same idea about the frenched tail lights,i bought lee lenses aswell.I've heard that only problem with the lee lenses is that they dont like heat,so i guess i have to use a led bulbs with them.
