All 239, 256, 272, 292, and 312 intakes interchange bolt pattern wise. A 239 2 brl intake will bolt on a 312 etc. The only problem is the ports will not always match up. A 239 head ports will be smaller than the ports on a 312 4brl intake.

im pretty sure the EBY-9425-D is for the 256 yblock....so i just want to know if it will fit my 239..???

  4. Yes, it is, and, assuming that the 239 retains its original cylinder heads (or the functional equivalent), yes, it will fit.

  6. Not trying to hijack your thread but is the 256 some sort of special y block? I never herd of it till a few days ago. I thought it was just the 239,272,292 and 312 ford for ford amd mercs

  7. The 256 is the '54 (only) Mercury engine...similar to the 239, except with a .125 larger bore.

Mercury was considered a higher-end line than Ford in the FoMoCo hierarchy, so the engines were sometimes larger (as in the case of the flatheads & the '54 Y blocks), or engines were offered in the Mercury line that were not offered in Fords. One example would be the 368 Lincoln Y offered in certain '57 Mercury Turnpike Cruisers (although one source states that they were also offered as a Police option in '57 Fords...I dunno for certain), or the 383 MELs or 410 MEL or 410 FEs that were all Mercury-only. (I believe the 383 was also in '58 Edsels...but in '58, the Edsel was a stand-alone division, not a Ford. :) )

There are two 239's. One is the Dearborn and the other was made some where else (I can't remember the locations). They were different in some respects, and I think intake manifolds was one area.

  10. Though the Dearborn & Cleveland versions of the 239 do differ in some important respects, the intake manifolds are still interchangeable. :) So long as his 239 has its original cylinder heads, or any early head with the small intake ports, it will fit & seal fine.

For that matter, if it has the later "medium" port heads of '55 & '56, the early intake will still seal as long as you are careful when installing it.
