So I just picked up an f100 with a 239 y block and while trying to start I noticed fuel coming from the pump... I disassembled and found the diaphragm had a tear in it. I was wondering if these pumps are rebuildable and if so where to buy parts and how to rebuild? If not rebuildable where can I find a replacement? I gave been searching but can only find the 272 fuel pump...
You can take your pick: http://motors.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=1954+ford+fuel+pump I would go for the dual action pump for better wiper action.
Do the 239, 256 and 272 all use the same pump? I cannot find any that say the fit the 239, only 256 and 272...
I went to napa already and the guy at the counter said there was no listing for the v8 and the 6 cyl pump showed none avail in the country
Some guys will hate on Speedway but I like them. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/1955-58-Y-Block-Fuel-Pump-With-Vacuum-Wipers,52268.html http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Y-Block-Ford-V8-Fuel-Pump,41731.html
rockauto.com They are a favorite of mine...easy to search, and they'll email you when they are having wholesale closeouts on parts for your vehicles. They show Airtex part #4070 for under $40.00
All of the above, probably. The parts guy is only found at the oldest NAPA in town. I'm my own parts guy these days. The chain joints are OK for deals on oil, but they've lost the essence of the service in my book. But that's a different thread & different rant.
Called napa again this morning after finding pumps on their website but they advised that both have been discontinued.
A 239 Ford engine was a one year only, in 54 for passenger cars. Most old parts books dont even list a 54 Ford. Use 55 parts. As far as I have seen, all Y blocks take the same pump. The fellow who sold me the one on my car says it fits all Y block passenger cars and trucks, all FE Ford up to and including a 427 single four barrel engine. It has 3/8 fittings in and out.
Does anyone make a basic mechanical fuel pump without the vacuum provisions and without a glass bowl or filter for the Y blocks ??
Carter M3528 or Airtex 3450. If you want a more typical looking "Ford" pump with the long lower chambers, Carter M6984. The Holley and Carter FE mechanical pumps will also work if you want a high volume pump...like the Carter M6905.
Thanks, the Carter M3528 looks like it will fill the bill. Is it listed as being for a Y block engine or is it listed as for another engine/year of vehicle ? Edit : Got it, looked up applications, one application is a 60s F100 with a 292. Called the local Bumper to Bumper and will have the Carter tomorrow.
