I'll leave it up to the mods if they want to erase this thread:

I recently purchased the complete WW2inHD series from the History Channel. It's the story of 12 different service people and their time(s) serving in both the Pacific Theater and/or European Theaters. All set to vintage war time footage that has been remastered in HD. There is also plenty of stock footage of life in America during this time. I highly highly recommend the series.

P.S I dont work for the History channel lol. When I was watching it last night I couldn't help but think how many of these fella's rolled their Hot Rods into the barn before they shipped off.

    I loved it!

I'm a huge WW2 buff. I have an authentic SS Nazi helmet and a Nazi gas mask. Wonder what they are worth?

Was an awesome show, I really enjoyed watching it. My opinion youre safe, a lot of those boys either had or built rods when they returned home. Amazing footage.

I'm a big fan as well, and have the whole wwII in hd on dvr. As far as "The Pacific" I don't get HBO so I'm hoping it'll be on other channels eventually.
Tom Hanks on the other hand is a GREAT disappointment to me though after his comment that American soldiers over there were "racist, with a kill them all" attitude, what an ignorant ass hole! He ows every one of those veterans an apology, not to mention everything else he owes them.

You can watch the full episode of The Pacific here.

    http://www.hbo.com/the-pacific/inde...es/0/01-part-1/video/part-1-full-episode.html

Great start! I loved Band of Brothers, this looks like it will be just as good.

Regarding the authentic SS Helmet and gas mask, have you had them verified?
A LOT of people have really good fakes......there is quite a bit of money to be made in WWII memoribilia particularly Nazi stuff. I steer clear of that stuff, something about ghosts in the machine.......

  13. The correct term is servicemembers, all one word, and NOT "service people", of which there is no such thing.

I'm a WWII buff also. To think about all they did, all they gave, for there country, and all of us. Words cant even say or explain it. How it was to leave all you've ever known to fight, and some times die half way around the world. How it was to see you best friends die. To have someone knock on your door, when you open it you find that your only son has died someplace you have never even head of.

They say that that generation was the our greatest generation. If you think about it they really were!!!!!!!!!!

I was a meter reader for the local utility company a few years ago. I liked to park the truck and walk the route whenever I could, and one day I met up with an older gentleman who actually fought in Normandy. I've watched many documentaries and movies about WWII, but it was just amazing to talk with someone who was actually there. I talked to him for about 20 minutes but regretfully had to get on with my job, otherwise I could have listened to him all day.

The only people that pay a lot of money for that stuff, are the wrong kinda people...
Most museums won't touch the stuff and selling on the "open" market is strictly controlled/forbidden.

My Dad was a in the 93rd armored field artillery. He is pictured in the book "After Five", which is a history of that battalion. He turned 89 in Feb. and is still very sharp and clear. He was decorated twice, silver star and bronze star. He still doesn't talk much about it. He is my real life hero!!

  21. My neighbor says " worked in the pacific in the 1940s" lol
his favorite landing (!) was MogMog a little island that " we hit expecting trouble but
the place was deserted. They left their huts, we kicked doors and it turned out to be the Japanese beer stash! The Sixth Us Marines had a party"
he still limps from a bullet in the leg, doesn't swear, and did a seecon hitch as a di for " the whole Korea thing"
    Jacks quite a fella

    >>>>>,I watched "the Pacific" last nite on my DISH 101 channel ,,the beginning was a little slow ,,,but it was o k thru the last half hour ,,,can't wait 'till next Monday nite ,,
my Dad's main job on P T Boats in the Phillipines was to patrol at nite ,,search out those Jap barges re-supplying their troops on the many islands ,,and hide out in the rivers in the daytime so the Jap Zeros couldn't find em ,,
in the movies ,,when the Jap Fleet was coming up the Saragosa Straights ,,sneeking up on our fleet ,,the movies show a line of over 50 P T Boats waiting to attack the fleet ,,to slow em dowm ,,in that scene ,,my Dad is on the third Boat from the right ,,
i have a hard copy book his Skipper compiled after the War ,,from ALL the P T Boat log books ,,i can read everything my Dad did those three years ,,,awesome read ,,
Keep in mind ,,outa of several thousand P T Boaters ,,only HALF came home alive ,,
Watch the movie 'They Were Expendable" and you'll see how bad it was ,,
JFK's deal on his P T Boat 109 was great ,,but he was only ONE of many hundres guys that saved his crews ,,
