I saw a BT4 Cummins setup in a 68 Ford Truck and it turned out pretty good. Had plenty of torque, but was not a high RPM motor. Did not go real fast down the interstate...

That looks like a slick installation.

    Yes I would consider it.

The modern 4cyl. has stock HP outputs that are equal to & exceed V-8 HP outputs from the mid 80's. so I would have no qualms to use one.

Infact I am considering the cummins 4bt, for my build. but honestly am more inclined to go with the 6bt do to cost between the two.

If anybody replaces flatties with 4 bangers ..... I'll gladly take'en off your hands. Or any V8 for that matter

I owned a Model A pickup with a turbocharged 2.3 Ford and, although it was reasonably peppy, it really lacked the hot rod sound. After that, I'd rather have an anemic 8 than a fast 4.

    Good luck!

I haven't posted on here in awhile as I decided to go the straight six route.

However, I drove my sisters new 2.0 L ecoboost ford escape (3500 lbs). That thing was WICKED. Granted it revs high, but it revs fast and will set you back in your seat if you want to get on it! It has way more pep than our 3.7 jeep liberty and my 5.4L f150 and 4.7L dakota. Granted they are heavier but the seat of the pants felt really good.

If a turbo 2.3L can get close to that ecoboost, I for one would not have any reservations about putting one in a vehicle I am building (under 3500 lbs), especially for a daily driver. 27 mpg to boot, go figure....

There is a guy who built a 4 banger on the 460.com forum for his stock car . That used misc. parts from a 460 ford. I think it made great power but not sure on mileage.

Sure, but my vote now is for the 2.0 Turbo Ecotec Chevy / GM motor as I supect the new Fords won't be available cheap / take-out for some time in versions that can be fit with inline drives. Gary

Not a 4-cylinder, but my Falcon has a massive 144-inch engine in it. It drives just fine.

    I believe the 2.3 measures out to 140 C.I.

Yes I considered it, but installed a V8 Ford instead.

    Good thing it is a 2.4 then! 1.75 x 1.75 x 3.1416 x 2.5 x 6 = 144.31725. Never mind that mine is 0.020" over.

  25. Just so you know - Ford sued and won, stopping that truck from being built. Second, it was acknowledged that the 104 HP, 177 ft lb diesel was not powerful enough for a full size truck, even for a developing auto market like China

The 1907 Thomas Flyer that won "The Great Race" had a 571 inch 4 cylinder. Probably wouldn't out run many of the V8s here but it could certainly help some of you settle your size inadequacy issues. It still runs by the way.
