If given the chance, how could you not make at least a few passes in it? Maybe it's just because I'm old enough to see the end isn't that many years ahead, or because it's from an era I'm old enough to remember. Either way I wouldn't pass up the opportunity if I had it!
Must be a Michigan thing, I was just thinking "Hold my beer and watch this!" I most definitely would take her for a spin!
Id make a pass, well maybe 2 passes. Need a warm up pass to check how it handles before I take anything to WOT.
^^^ Thats what I am thinking a good 1/8 mile warm up pass then let it hang out the next full 1/4 mile.
Lotsa macho men on here...as long as you don't have family obligations I guess it's OK. (Think the original driver left four kids...)
Thought it was, what car was he in? Heard he hit a grader at the end of the track? Even for the times that rear engined car is kind of over the top scary.
That would be one ( limited ) way of looking at it. Another could be that we try to interpret old machines with our current delicate & pampered sensibilities. ( that's how we end up with "traditional" Hot Rods with radials, disc brakes, 3rd brakelights, and al the other garbage we cant seem to do without in the post Nader era...) One thing was certain... The rollbar was pretty strong...
Not withstanding professional drivers, when you have the responsibilities of a family I would think common sense would limit your risk taking. Really has nothing to do with street rods and ,in my mind , more to do with at least trying to be there for your commitments. To each his own I guess.
Also, psychologically, would those who say they would drive it, do so without having seen someone sitting in it or without seeing a test run?
When I was 30 I would have jumped in and run WFO the first pass. Now in my mid 50's I'd have to make multiple passes working up to making a wide open run. It's not that I'm more worried about getting hurt than I was when I was young, it's that I know my eyesight and reaction time isn't what it used to be.
I believe that is Red Case in the first pic, and not the same car with the '60 Ford on top of it. Red was killed in 1958, in a different car, at Vaca Valley (I think). He went out of control at the end of the track, and hit a hay rake.
YOU BET CHA !!! I've Test Driven several experimental vehicles in the past . Theres no greater rush than being the first to test drive something.
I would, but I'd probably only do an idling pass with some throttle blips. That's one hell of a go-cart!
Where do I sign up? Family jewels have already been sniped, should be nothing wrong with them inches off the ground at high speeds.
